This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/...
TAS originally published on 2023-12-31
Pokémon Blue Kaizo is a challenging hack on the original title ( tasvideos.org/16G ) where areas, routes and dungeons have been redesigned and Pokémon and Trainer Battles have also become more unforgiving.
Watch as Chamale ( tasvideos.org/... ) battles their way through the game avoiding glitches, repelling Pokémon and leaving it all to chance.

Blue Kaizo is definitely notable for battle difficulty, but aside from Gen 1 exclusive mechanics, much of that has been recreated elsewhere. What makes Blue Kaizo truly special is the overworld. That cycling road hill where you need to go back and forth is tricky to do even despite the large timing windows, and the mazes are all brutal with the screen crunch.

Oh yes, when I played through this game several times, I always used save states and load states whenever I took on those mazes and such, so whenever I inevitably fall down a ledge when I mean to go left or right and then up, I can reload and try again as much as I want. I really don't like the mazes, but I do like the cave that requires you to push boulders down holes in order to get through the cave, and there was a time that I got through and then forgot an hm and realized it when I tried to get into the next town, I had to backtrack an awful amount to get the hm, and I thought I had to push all those boulders again, but thankfully the game takes pity on you and doesn't reset the boulder, because if it did, I would've stopped playing for the day. 😅😁

Good God I think that tas would take at least 12 hours due to the many back to back and back to back to back battles you have to do, and you have 16 gyms to do, with the Kanto gym leaders all having 6 Pokemon on their team, and each gym leader has higher leveled Pokemon than the last, and their Pokemon will be higher than level 100! Yikes! I'm glad in Emerald Kaizo the max level the Elite Four have for Pokemon are level 100! The max level for a battle was lv115 in Blue Kaizo, and lv127 for the final fight in Crystal Kaizo!

I always dreamed this would become a thing. I more dreamed for Emerald Kaizo but this is a good start. As far as I know, I'm the only person who even attempted to speedrun this romhack to beat all Gym Leaders and no sequence breaking. I would use Vileplume all the way up to getting Cut, and then set up a variant of the Trainer Fly Glitch to encounter and catch Mewtwo, of which then I steamroll the rest of the hack with Mewtwo, but I also keep Vileplume as backup, as well as add Aerodactyl, Jolteon, Machamp, and Slowbro to deal with Pokemon better than what Mewtwo could. These extra Pokemon were only for E4. Until then, Mewtwo was running solo. The Speedrun is more than 9 hours. I would absolutely love to one day see what Crystal Kaizo and Emerald Kaizo would look like for TAS and Speedrunning!

Do you have any thoughts on the best Pokemon to use for a TAS of Crystal Kaizo or Emerald Kaizo? The battles would be much more difficult because there's no Gen 1 miss, so getting KO'd by strong opponents is a constant threat.

Go through the rest of the game until national park, catch a heracross, once you reach ice cave, catch a sneasel for the 5% quick claw to outspeed everything

The general "Kaizo" phenomenon has been a thing in the West for maybe 15 years. Named after an infamous romhack of Super Mario World, the word literally means "rearrangement" and usually means that the elements of a game have been changed around to present a much greater level of difficulty, requiring in-depth knowledge of the game and its quirks to succeed.

Pretty sure it's because they need a bit more EV's for the champion fight, and if you level up by battling, you get all the EV's you gained from each fight, whereas you would not get them by levelling up to 100 before the e4.
