    The engines in the earlier ones were highly defective. Even so JD offered a drop in engine at a huge discount price for that reason. I had a Ariens gt17 & the factory engine was a KT17, it had the frame modified for an M18 of which I think is good, haven’t started it yet, when I traded the tractor & attachments I kept the engine cuz they’re hard to find/I have a lot of uses for a side shaft engine. I’ve got 4 other GTs that use a sideshaft.

    Nice Toy Taryl! Hard to beat the old school 317 JD machines. You really put a number on the blower as well with that strip that closes up the paddle clearance. Blows like a silage chopper now!!

    I love this! I may actually try this with an old Crapsman rider. Somehow gotta find a way to install and supply power to a space heater then it would be tits! Awesome video and genius creation!

    You could find a John Deere LX178 with a water cooled Kawasaki engine which has a radiator stacked otop of the engine and a wicked fan assembly. Simply make a second duct and direct into your new custom cab and you'd be toasty warm during the winter.

    Luve the J D snowblower, don't get much of that white stough here in Ga. But I would love to build a tow behind mower for my Kawasaki mule Scarlette to use up in the mountains on my off grid camp have a Husky with a 22 hp v Briggs and a good deck, any Ideas?

    +David Moore Just add wheels & a hitch. Oh yeah + mount the engine. Could be done. Might be more feasible to find a good used tow behind. Unless you want to build yur own COOOOOL 1-off tow behind. David Go For It.

    a few of the 1980's 300 series john deeres came with power steering. the 317 did not. they even made a diesel 300. they still cost an arm and a leg.
