Cynthia Erivo, Taron Egerton (Maybe Next Wolverine), Aldis Hodge show off vocals at SBIFF Virtuosos Award, Santa Barbara International Film Festival concluded with the Virtuosos Award presented to Aldis Hodge, Awkwafina, Beanie Feldstein, Cynthia Erivo, Taron Egerton, Florence Pugh, and Taylor Russell for their body of work in the last year.Eight actors were honored for their breakout roles in film with the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s (SBIFF) Virtuosos Award event held at the historic Arlington Theatre on Saturday night. The annual award is presented to “up-and-coming” actors with noteworthy performances in film.Taron Egerton, Harriet‘s Cynthia Erivo, and Clemency‘s Aldis Hodge, using part of their panel discussion time to sing some of their favorite tunes at karaoke.Hodge got his peers going with his nearly perfect rendition of Kanye West and Jamie Foxx‘s 2005 hit “Gold Digger.” "I’m kind of ashamed,” Hodge said when asked what his go-to karaoke song is before breaking into song. His fellow honorees, also including Awkwafina (The Farewell), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), George MacKay (1917), Florence Pugh (Little Women), and Taylor Russell (Waves), excitedly urged him to keep singing when he’d stop.Erivo was convinced next to sing her favorite karaoke hit, “We Don’t Need Another Hero” by Tina Turner as the Booksmart star melted into her seat in admiration. After a couple of verses, Erivo was met by roaring applause from the audience and her fellow honorees.“This is the best day of my life,” Feldstein, who sat between Hodge and Erivo, said.
Karger then dared anyone else to follow up, and after a little encouragement from Erivo, Egerton, who portrayed the iconic Elton John in the movie "Rocketman," channeled his inner George Michael and delighted the audience with a little bit of "Faith."
