    So true. Honestly, the only rectifiers I have had to replace recently over the last year were in Sundown amplifiers.

    @@ellensburgamplifier Ty! I just bought a digital up/down buck converter, going to craft my own low end PSU with a 24v/20a ASIC miner PSU for testing (5 amps and under, fancy color digital screen, ya know all us newbs want to build our own PSU at first lol) what do you think of an adjustable Brick like the one you suggested? If my buck psu ends up being noisey how would one “clean” it up or is it just not worth it? I’m mainly building this buck based PSU for testing amps without sending full boot up power to amp wo nothing blows, to test signals and whatnot.

    @@Tekjive Excellent sounds like you have a good plan. You will find that you will not need an adjustable supply for the testing section of your beach unless you are diagnosing with voltage injection (which I rarely do). The key is to keep the current low or have current limiting. This way if there is a short in the amplifier no parts burn up. It is amazing how hot a TO220 can get on a 2 amp supply. I am not sure how I would clean up a noisy supply. I have a noisy SMPS that I may devise a capacitive method to clean it up.

    @@ellensburgamplifier hey Todd, so I was watching your other video and you spoke on isolated ground and the importance of it to protect your equipment when grounding probes, and that you get that from the 12volt2amp brick power supply you use to diagnose, the 10 amp you suggested to me above for fully testing amps after repair has a 3 prong plug, which means that’s earth main grounded and not isolated correct? I know the 2 are diff circumstances but I think I already know but I wanted to double check, to make sure it’s isolated I would want a 2 prong plug on the 12v2a I’m looking at right? , also I’m thinking of getting a 12v3a just in case or should I really just stick with 2amp or does it not even really matter, and do all brick power supplies like these have those safety auto shutoff protections like you were talking about yours having or just the one you suggested? New to all this but trying to soak it in as much as possible. Also I sprung for a programmable 10amp PSU Kungber SPPS-S3010, which I’m thinking of buying/building an isolation transformer for like Dave on EEVBlog was talking about in the video you suggested, or do I want to keep my main adjustable PS earthmain grounded and just have the 2amp brick PS I’ll use to diagnose isolated? I know these questions may seem a little obvious/mundane but I want to start off learning with what you think are best practices in this field, what would you recommend? The way you check the ohms around the transistor/ mosfets what number represents bad and what range represents good?

  • @ellensburgamplifier

    @ellensburgamplifier

    3 ай бұрын

    All measurements are from gate to source. The first thing is to locate shorts which are usually less than 500 ohms. The range that represents good is based on the pulldown resistors and their values including any resistor also in the circuit.

    The other day my subs sounded funny (no clip light) and I checked my smart 3 with a multimeter and the ohms were rising from 1 to mid 30s. I have not touched my amp or subs in weeks they have just been in my daily driver played at a normal volume. I am from texas and im guessing the heat could have something to do with it but I would like your opinion on what this could be. subs are wired to 1 ohm and its a taramps smart 3. Also when amp is off it reads 1.2 ohms but as soon as the amp turns on it rises.

  • @ellensburgamplifier

    @ellensburgamplifier

    2 жыл бұрын

    that is called rise. As the speaker moves across the magnet the inductance of the voice coil changes, That is the change you are seeing. The important part is the resting resistance which is OK at 1.2 ohms nominal. Now if the subs are sounding funny there may be wear at the motor (magnet and voice coil) or the surround. I would be cautious as to not short any voice coils as this will damage the amplifier.

If you could please help I just bought this amp 2 weeks ago. Hi Ruben, unfortunately, most coverages end when there are any end-user errors. What you will find is a shorted output (amplification) section. Would need new transistors and possibly even new drivers depending on the design. www.ellensburgamplifier.com/request-a-quote for the best repair prices in the PNW!

    @E'burg Amplifier Repair cool, you don't think DD M series amps are any good? Is there a reason you think those amps are a no go for you? I know you know alot more about amp then I do for sure. Right now I jus have 2 8s I'm installing in my truck and was looking for a good solid amp to run them at a 2ohm load for now and when I upgrade my system to 4 subs I'd be able to use the same amp and jus wire down to 1ohm. I jus wasn't to sure if say an says it puts out 1500w at a 2ohm load and that was a little to much power could you set your gain to jus deliver 1200w or would you jus have to be easy on the gain/bass knob. Thanks alot for the help 🙏

    @@johnnypiper1717 DD is not a bad amplifier in general just pushed to the limit. You are correct on the thought process as you have complete control of how many watts the amplifier will be using based on the input. You can put a 10k watt amp in its place and only run it at 1000 watts if the gain will go low enough. Some gains are extremely touchy. The Smart line will aid in fault prevention if used properly and fed well.

    @E'burg Amplifier Repair awesome, yeah I been looking for awhile now on which amps to go with and those are the amps I been leaning towards. The DD M2000 was the 1st I thought about getting and like the Salt 3 and seems to have little more technology then the DD m series as well as 3k instead of 2k. There so many different amps out there and hard to choose. I don't mind paying for a good amp but know some brand name jus mark the price up for there name and the amp might come out the same build house as one that's little cheaper. Is there any specs you should look for when buying a amp like damping factor ect. Thanks for helping me

    @@johnnypiper1717 Specs will be determined on how it will be used so I would ask around people who are installers. From my standpoint, as a repair tech, I look at rail voltage at the rectifiers and after the final output filtering but this is usually beyond the end user as it exposes the owner to potential high voltages.

    In my opinion, Korean-style designs have a little more wiggle room for error in the vehicle setup. Brazilian design styles allow for more output power in a smaller footprint. How can this be people ask? Much higher rail voltage.

    What would you go with CAB 22 vs taramps smart 3 ?

  • @ellensburgamplifier

    @ellensburgamplifier

    2 жыл бұрын

    That is a tough one as they are completely different amplifiers. You will have more audio control with the smart3 with a smaller footprint or you can have decent subwoofer power with the CAB board but much larger. I prefer the Tarmaps for the parts used over the CAB but the CAB wins in heatsink density.
