As a newbee, this is very interesting. Great video. And, I appreciate the fact that you don't use any background music. Makes it so easy to listen to. Thanks

I actually use tape and have had tons of issues with either dropping the ball or my thumb hanging up in the ball and I never knew this. This helped a ton! Thanks very much!

Appreciate the tips. I use tape on my thumb to both improve fit and to help to with tearing. I deal with seasonal swelling. In the winter I struggle with dropping the ball and in the summer I will swell and tear. Just last month I had Turbo switch grips installed and they fit very good, but less than two months later with the weather changing my thumb has shrunk. I threw some practice games last night and even with thumb tape I dropped several balls. I kept stacking the tape until my grip was improved. I've had people telling me for a long time I needed tape in the thumb hole, but the few times I tried it I absolutely did not like it. I feel like its time to try it again as my release is different and my skill lever improved since the last time I tried it. At this point, anything that can help with me dropping it is going to help my game.

Hey JR, I know this is an old video but I was wondering if you could do a follow up or give some more insight on the different colors Turbo provides. I'm back in the game after 30 years. Back then we used white bandage tape or black electrical tape to modify the feel. One of the biggest problems with coming back after so long has been getting the proper thumb fit between ovaling out properly and dealing with a "growing" thumb after a few weeks being back. I'm comfortable using tape but find the white tape a bit to grippy at times. I can see that Turbo makes a lot of different colors with different textures but hard to find any good information on what the appropriate use is. I've been using turbo white tape but find that I usually can't tolerate more than 1 piece when I start a session. After a game or so, the swelling makes me feel like I'm sticking so I pull the tape out but then it feels a bit too loose. Sometimes I'll cut a piece in half and put it down by the pad. I do use Motive tape on the back, usually the grey style (medium release). I'm wondering if using one of the different Turbo colors would help out. Trying out all the different colors can get a bit pricey. Looking to see if you have some insight. Thanks for your all your videos, I've picked up so many great tips.

I have a question. When putting tape in the back of the thumbhole, do you also have to do the tiered taping method just like the front or no?

I see you are using textured tape to align with the back of your thumb. Do you ever need to use the slick black tape to really get out of the ball ? Also, I see you using tape on the top of your thumb, do you use textured/slick black tape there as well ? If so, why would you use it in one position over the other and then both ?

I wonder how much better my accuracy would be if I taped my fingers (AMF balls are pretty slick on the inside) and started releasing properly (from your other video on it). My style of bowling is just power throwing it down the lane right at the 1-3 pin which I learned to do from (no joke) Wii Bowling (I dont have my own ball yet so taping the ball is out of the question and I do take a microfiber cloth to the 2 balls that I use from the alley after each shot) and it works pretty well for me, I consistently get 90-130 scores which is higher than most of my friends

Some pros do it like this where skin of thumb is touching tape but I've seen others where the tape is touching back of thumb. Is that just preference?

I have a ball that the finger insert seems to bulge beyond the ball surface just like the purple ball you were using for this demonstration. I worry about having a problem during a tournament if called on this situation. Opinion?

Fingers shouldn't be in your track if its drilled properly. You can do a couple things if it really bugs you. You can take insert out and cut the bottom, with SHARP scissors. Or you can release the super glue and re glue it. Pull the insert back with a small screwdriver, put the glue about an inch down. Simultaneously move the screwdriver and push down on the insert so it's just below the surface.

I have been using Storm Max pro finger tape on my middle, ring, and pointer finger. Much better than rosin. Comes in pre cut, or a roll. I have developed a callous on the bottom of my middle finger, on the tip below the nail, about 1/2 “ long. Makes it slippery to keep the finger in the insert. The tape helps.
