Taormina - The Most Beautiful Town in Sicily? Exploring the Hilltop Paradise in Italy

What can we say? Taormina LIVES up to the HYPE! An exquisite hilltop town with a magical atmosphere, it sits on the east coast of Sicily near Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano. Just a stone's throw away from the Strait dividing Sicily from the Italian Peninsula, it is a town known for its ancient Greco-Roman theater still used today, beautifully restored medieval buildings, breathtaking views around every corner, and a weaving network of winding streets strewn with shops, bars and restaurants.
Could it possibly be the most beautiful town in Sicily? In this episode, we stroll through the gorgeous park of Villa Comunale and showcase its breathtaking views, visit the 2nd largest Greek theatre in Sicily, find pistachio and granita heaven at Bam Bar, and wade through the water on a narrow stretch of sand to reach Isola Bella - a tiny island and nature reserve… all while eating our fair share of paninis!
Taormina is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world, and the mild Sicilian climate makes it an ideal destination any time of the year for a walking tour!

In ancient greek theaters in South Italy, gladiators never fought, but actors performed greek comedies and tragedies. The fights began in the Roman amphitheaters, not theaters, few centuries later.

Exactly what I wanted to say as well! For history nerds not very well explained in the video. By the way the park was donated to the town after Lady Florences death...we have spent many hours in that park enjoying the shade and of course the views. We were in Taormina just before the G7 meeting, the road up to the village was of course newly tarmaced for the meeting a nice plus but unfortunately an olive grove was chopped down and the area used for landing Trump and co ....

@@TheGlobalExpats Vicenza. I am retired US Army Special Forces, so ask a way, I can handle it. LOL As you begin your invasion of the mainland, don't forget sublime Paestum. 3 other suggestions. Fiesole, originally a hilltop Etruscan town later conquered by the Romans, It sits on a ridgeline overlooking Florence with incredible views. #7 bus from the train station will take you. Great place to stay/eat unwind after hectic day in Florence. Don't miss steep walk up to the Monastery and the Roman/Etruscan site, with a Roman amphitheater where most likely you will be the ONLY ones sitting there. When visiting Venice, I like to stay at Punta Sabbioni, a ferry ride out of Venice with a beach, restaurants and away from the overwhelming bustle that is Venice. And of course when Venice was a City State you would arrive by boat, so you will see the fortifications that protected it. When you get to the Dolomites, try a "via ferrata" with a guide. 2 pieces of advice on security...buy a battery-operated smoke/carbon monoxide device since many Italian apartments don't have one. About $20 bucks on Amazon. Also a "wedge door stop security alarm" $14 this prevents your door from opening and sets off an alarm. "in bocca al lupo"

The Verona Arena had a concert given by Santana that I attended with a bunch of Paratroopers from Vicenza and we had front row seats. Being Sicilan(American) I have seen and been exposed to a lot of people talking about a lot of Sicilian cities and towns. All are very nice and have their own allures. Taormina was seen by me to be a touristy town. A place tourists know because they don't know the rest of Sicily too much. That said, it isn't just that. Taormina is absolutely fabulous. Wonderful. It has so much everything for it's size. The views are incredible.

@@Thehermitist You have completely misunderstood my comment; we have just returned from Sicily today including nine days in Taormina - it’s very, very busy, more so I think than usual for the first day of October. We have been going nearly every year for thirty years; I do not think Taormina touristy, but it *is* full of tourists - that is what I said and it is pretty much an accurate assessment. I think you need to address the person who wrote the original comment with which I did not agree, and neither it seems do you; Taormina is indeed a very special, magical, and unique destination - La perla dello Ionio.

Will you guys make a detailed itinerary of everything you did and everywhere you went and stayed at the end of your trip so people can just download it and use it as a template? Can’t wait for more videos. Thank you for doing this!

I would give a time period but right it looks like we will be touring for as long as it takes us to visit all 20 regions 😅 That sounds like an incredible idea, I have Google docs of everything we've done so when we land more on our feet then I will try and compile all of my research to be used as a template for others! It is awesome to have you on this journey with us 🇮🇹

One of my favourites of yours, as this helped us choose where we would visit. Visiting in six weeks time, and staying in Taormina during our four day visit. Did you have any issues from anyone, with flying your drone in Taormina? I've just got a Dji Mini Pro 3 and want to capture something pretty special, so making sure I know beforehand. Got my EASA certificate and EU Operater registration.

A few quaint notes: we stayed in the airbnb home of admiral Bertram Ramsay's butler 😃 Just below the most expensive hotel in all of Taormina, below also the the amphitheatre. We had a huge roof terracce overlooking all of Taormina, and piano music floating down from the hotel. Compared to Taormina prices this was a throwaway, with less than 30 Euro per person and night. Very romantic. That said, Taormina was too touristic for us. The small local market had to be found after some small alleyways at 8a.m. in the morning - lateron you cannot even see the old buildings due to all the floods of tourists by the busload. Too"posh" for us.
