Fascinating lesson about the drive and how it works. I recommend that you coat the splines with grease before you refit the gearbox. Short splines can wear away if they are dry.
It does seem a lot like the most important tools for assembling a russian tank are a hammer and... Well, a larger hammer....

It's one of the reasons why Russian tanks out performed their German counterparts in many aspects. German tanks were advanced, tough and some of the heavy could probably take out 3 or 4 Russian equivalent tanks before the Russians dropped it - but they were maintenance hungry, expensive, complex, used exotic materials and required well trained crews, and took a long time to repair. Contrast this with a Russian tanks which were quick to manufacture, easy to maintain and required minimal training to operate and repair, as well as the fact that it was very tolerant of poor conditions. A German crew would likely have to abandon a tank if it had a gearbox failure. The Russians would simply have to perform sufficient percussive maintenance and it would be back on the road again. (Disclaimer: I know I'm oversimplifying, tank enthusiasts please don't crucify me)

@@ValleysOfRain I remember an anecdode about the difference between the Western and Soviet concepts of reliability, Soviet reliability seems to be not that it doesn't break down, just that its really easy to repair when it does. Sort of like the US concept of ease of field repair, except with larger hammers.

You guys are awesome ;) Edit: better than 99% of garbage on the actual TV. Please keep it up you legends..!
You will have some fine tuning to get the brake bands to work together nicely, but it's coming on. When you took it all apart - wi the gas torch, I wondered how you'd get all the new parts, but you have! Brilliant! One wonders how they managed to make thousands of these machines for war. And now with English subtitles you can teach us all how tanks work! (I drove a British Cheiftan tank once as a boy soldier in the '70's. All I can remember was the noise and discomfort sitting in the driver's seat, it seemed incredibly powerful!
Mooi man! Nice to see the robustness of the thing. It's been outside in the rain for twenty years, and still 80% of the work is just rust removal, cleaning, painting, and assembly, with only a small portion of the parts having to be repaired of replaced. Nice!
I like the fact that everything you do teaches me more. As intricate and complicated as these tanks are, you make it simple.
love your tank project milo & Dirk!! PLEASE MAKE ENGLISH TRANSLASTIONS IN WORKSHOPVLOG!

I would like to see this Tank racing with oversteer through the corners.
The lineage of that steering assembly can be traced back T55/54, T44, T34-85 & T34-76 1940
I would wager that the multi-disc clutch packs have asbestos in them.
Ребята ставьте больше лайков, это здорово) вот если бы ещё понимать о чем речь
And at the moment you grind into the brake lining to find it isn't asbestos...it's depleted uranium. xD
