Tank restoration 02 Tamiya Tiger II Sd.Kfz 182

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Another restoration complete, this time my Tiger II that I first built 6 years ago so this should show an improvement in my painting and weathering abilities over that time . I'm really happy with the end result the model looks so much more detailed and colourful compared to the previous paint finish .

I started using Vallejo paints and had a really hard time getting it to spray through my brush then switched to Tamiya and bingo, no problem, great ww2 colors and really easy to spray. Tamiya is the best and they make the best model kits. Love how the Japanese people do things. They do it right and I love watching you paint. Awesome. Amazing.

I just liked the simplicity of the little Vallejo bottles but I am tempted to go back the tamiya paints to be honest

@@scalemodelling76 oh Ive not seen you use Vallejo. All I ever see you use is Tamiya. Whats the magic mixture thinner/paint for that stuff? I go 1 to 1 with Tamiya and no problem. I have 60 bucks worth of Vallejo and the guy at the shop said its not an airbrush paint. If I can get it to stop clogging my brush Ill use it.

Looks great! It's almost exactly like the restoration I'm doing right now. Tamiya KT with homemade zimmerit. We even used the same decals.

Never seen a file used to make flame cut marks but an X-Acto blade after softening up the plastic with glue. I'll have to remember this method, seems to work as well. I have a few old kits that could use the ol' resto treatment. Good work!

Thanks yeah the edge of the file makes the slightly deeper marks then I use a razor saw to do the finer ones

Yep I did that but made the cuts a tad too deep,so I started to sand them, realised that it was a little too much for it,so I followed your idea of the saw blade and glue, works a treat, thank you, cheers to you Chris as well, keep on experimenting with various stuff 👍

@@felipfelop8220 I have an older Dragon T-34/85 kit I'm getting ready to build that I think I'm going to try this method on. IMO, the weld seams and flame cuts are too softly detailed, as is the steel texturing like I see in many real photos. Most likely an issue with earlier molding technology compared to current kits on the market. I've done similar things before on kits and IMO, it's easier to replicate on Russian tanks than it is on German tanks. The Russian's had a more roughly done flame cut pattern than those seen on German tanks. I have a superbly done, resin cast turret for the same T-34/85 kit but I think I'm going to give it a go first and try redoing what's already molded before using it. I'm going to redo all the flame cuts and the weld seams using Tamiya Epoxy Putty. I have an older Tamiya Jagdtiger I'm also going to attempt the same methods on.

Great job with restoration! But if you are going to go to all that detail with painting, why didn't you create a template and paint on the crosses and numbers? It would be even more realistic if they did not come out as perfect as decals!

Can this really be called a restoration? When you restore something you return it to its original look. This Tiger just got a new paint job and some body work additions.

I like your build. But my pet peeve is chipping. No tank, unless its an abandoned Russian tank in the desert should have chipping. Tank paint is just too hard to chip.
