Here at The A.V. Club, we love it when artists come perform for us in our studio, so we’re going to make it a regular thing with the launch of our new series, AVC Sessions. The premise is dead simple: For each Session, we’ll bring in an artist, band, musician, singer, rapper, etc. to perform three of their own tracks. For the inaugural Session, NPR Tiny Desk Contest winners Tank And The Bangas brought their style and New Orleans charm to the A.V. Club studio. In the first video from this Session, the group performs “Boxes And Squares,” a track from its 2013 album, Think Tank.

I've loved them since their Tiny Desk Concert: their live sound takes everything great from their album versions and adds so many new flavors. It's nothing like the same. I find myself looking for every performance to see how many ways they can interpret their own music.

@Joschula Page This song means that Tank is dealing with a man that's not good for her. She loves him, though, because she wants to be everything to him: from meats, greens, peas, eggs, etc. But, the man she is dealing with doesn't appreciate all she does for him and is likely a "mama's boy" since he needs permission from his mama for anything he needs to do. That's basically the deeper meaning.
