Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Water (as needed)
- Ghee (clarified butter) or butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.
2. Gradually add water and knead the mixture to form a soft and smooth dough. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry. Let it rest for about 15-20 minutes, covered with a damp cloth.
3. Preheat your tandoor (clay oven) or a regular oven to the highest temperature setting (usually around 500-550°F or 260-290°C).
4. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
5. Take one ball of dough and flatten it slightly with your hands. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a round disc, about 6-8 inches in diameter. You can dust the rolling surface and the dough with a little flour to prevent sticking.
6. Carefully place the rolled-out roti onto the hot tandoor or oven rack. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side or until it puffs up and gets some brown spots.
7. Use tongs to flip the roti and cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes, until it's cooked through and has some charred spots.
8. Remove the tandoori roti from the tandoor or oven and immediately brush it with ghee or butter to keep it soft and add flavor.
9. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
10. Serve the tandoori roti hot with your favorite curry or side dish.
