TaMtAm & 90s St. Petersburg Underground (Part II)

Took me forever to get this done, hope you find something useful in this video. Second part to the story behind the cult TamTam club. All the footage and music belong to their respective owners. Here is a Spotify playlist that compiles most of the music from the two videos

Regarding Jugendstil: There was even an occasional revival for a couple of shows. When band became inactive, German played with a band ZGA ("Полёт заразы" album) for some time. As he used to say, Jugendstil was not over, he just lost a wish to do smth new and write new songs.

Thanks for the info, didn't know about German's ties to ZGA. That's cool to hear.

I think that the 90's generation of TaMtAm/St. Petersburg lagged behind world trends. Surprisingly, in the city of Izhevsk, which is located far from Europe and Asia, there was a unique sequence of "waves" of underground music: proto-trip-hop (before the establishment of the genre), shoegaze, indie, cool techno, and experimental electronics! All of that was captured in such a creative TV show called Morze Fish. Anyone who loves post-Soviet underground needs to watch this show (search by Рыба Морзе).

Izvhevsk was cool but they were doing different things in comparison to TamTam. As you mentioned, Izhevsk was more about Electronic and indie stuff while TamTam and St. Petersburg was a heavier, more eclectic type of place (Post-Hardcore, Noise, Acid Rock, Folk Punk and so on). TamTam wasn't really concerned with "world trends". For me at least, TamTam was about who can standout and create something unforgettable given the new opportunities in the country. To put it simply, TamTam was about the joys of making music, whether trendy or not and that's why some people gravitate towards it and listen to these bands to this day. I have a small section about Izhevsk in my Post-Punk video but I will probably make a more detailed video on it later.

babe wake up new MelodyBuffet kino just dropped this may be your best video yet. your editing and audio have improved. big thanks for these videos' deep dive into the scene. some great bands shown here that i'm not as familiar with. while there are some sources on the subject out there in English and German, they're unfortunately quite surface level. usually bands like Pussy Riot get all the attention in the west :/
