I loved this comparison! I own the 28-200 and love it on my a7c. I can attest to its IQ compared to the 28-75 G1 which I also own. My choice for travel will be the 28-200 and I will leave my 28-75 and my Sony 70-200 f4 at home. What a weight saving with no discernable loss of quality . For me, it is a no brainer!

Bought my a7iv with the 28-70 kit lens and was so disappointed that I sold that lens after 3 weeks. I then bought the Tamron 28-200 based on this video. Big thx bc it's amazing! I'm a hiker/climber in CO and so I take quick landscape shots from summits at 14,000+ feet in elevation. Don't have time (or weather much of the time) for manual controls so keep it in auto. Auto shoots daytime pics at f10 or f11 so no need for the constant 2.8 of the 28-75. Amazing results with the 28-200;)

Solid review! Own 28-75 G1 and the famed 28-200mm. The 28-200mm FTW hands down, even on a demanding a7R IV. The versatility and IQ works in the real world and is my everyday companion. No need to have a travel and non-travel set of lenses. Pair it with the 17-28 for the holy duality (tm).

Great comparison! No doubt the 28-75 if the better lens optically. I own the G1 and the 28-200. The latter stays on my camera almost all the time. As a landscape photographer I value the versatility of that lens far more than I value the slightly better optical quality of the 28-75.

i'm also a landscape photographer. the 28-200mm is on my camera 95% of the time. I also carry the 18mm from Samyang for those rare occasions i need the wide angle. I wish they made a 24-180mm f2.8-5.6 then i would only have one lens.

@@NickL0VIN 24mm would be nice, but to me it's not a very big deal that it starts at 28mm. When I shoot wider than that, 24mm usually isn't wide enough anyway.

Great video! I’m an amateur and use the 28-200 on my a7iii for virtually all outdoor photography. Its weight and range are just about perfect for me. I purchased the 70-180 for indoor sports and it works phenomenally. I am considering adding the 28-75 for indoor low lights that don’t involve sports.

I ride a motorcycle so for me and travel, space is a factor. I opted for the 28-200 and if I plan on a specific thing, I'll use a prime for that thing. As it is, I set the 28-200 at a focal length and use it that way. For instance, I'll set it at 50mm and run it that way, zooming with my feet. The variable aperture is much easier to account for that way and the difference in photo quality is barely noticeable side by side with the prime, so you really can't tell. For me, it's an easy choice.

@@bioliv1 I had the samyang 24mm f1.8 and I also have the 28-200. But in practice I found that for the difference I never felt that the change from 28mm to 24mm was worth changing lenses for! :-) I suppose having a zoom lens which covers from 20 to 40 ;-) or 17-28 might be more realistic because if you do change lens to go wider you can just leave it on for a bit because you can still go up to 40mm or whatever... but after a while you'd still ache for the longer reach. I also have a 35mm 1.8 Samyang which is more useful, because often indoors the 1.8 is better in lower light, subject separation, plus that's a good portrait size.. plus it's just about wide enough for small group / selfie type photos. Where as the 24mm was a bit wide for general use, yet not not wide enough to bother changing down from 28mm of the 28-200. I rented the 35-150 and that was a truly fun lens... every photo just looked pro! It's of course quite heavy (but if it's all you're carrying - on an A7C in my case it's actually not that bad. I had it on a sling type strap so it hangs down just above your hip), and unfortunately quite noticeable (that was probably the bigger disadvantage for me - it makes you look like paparazzi!). So having both the 28-200 to blend in a little better, and the 35-150 might be a good option, but maybe the novelty of the fancy f2-2.8 will fade.. not sure, I'll rent it a few more times and let you know ;-). For landscapes and wide shots you might also consider a compact wide zoom like 20-40mm tamron. But how often you'd actually flip tot that depends on what you do of course. For vloggers it's a completely different story.
