Tamiya Yamaha XV1000 Virago - Part 2 (for the Chris Chapman celebration of life group build).
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This kit goes together very well. It's taking a little longer since I've been scraping the glue points and using Tamiya Extra Thin cement instead of CA glue. Also, I had trouble with one of the decals and a bad reaction to the paint I used on the gas tank. I want to give special thanks to Thomas at Building on a Budget Models on KZread, his build video has been very helpful, here is the link to it for anyone else that is building this motorcylce for the first time:

Thanks David, it's a well made kit and goes together well. A few operator errors to correct tho'. lol.
Awesome update Steve! Sweet bike to build! To bad about the paint and decals, easy paint fix which is a good thing!

I'm going to strip the paint off and go with an acrylic.

I was able to remove the paint so I'll repaint it with craft acrylics next.

Thanks Butch, the kit goes together well except for a few operator errors. 😄
The motorcycle is looking goos so far, Steve. Unfortunately acrylic primer doesn't really like a lacquer top coat. Stripping the parts and maybe a trip to Michaels for a darker craft paint brown metallic might be in order?

I'll leave the lacquer paint until the spring when I can shoot outside, once the paint is stripped I'll do an acrylic.
Too bad about the decals and bubbling paint as it was coming along so beautifully. Hopefully you can recover from both setbacks. The bike does look exquisite in detail and sharpness.

I managed to strip the paint off and I'll prime it and paint it with the craft acrylics...once I choose a colour. 🙂
That already looks nice. You build quickly, almost finished Shame about the paint mistake on the tank I would strip it and if you have Tamiya primer I would try that I also sometimes put the spray can in warm water for two minutes to spray it a bit finer. Make sure you spray thin layers.

I think I'll leave the lacquer paint until spring so I can shoot it outside and with a different primer. Once it's stripped I'll go back to an acrylic.
Bike is looking good Steve, to bad on the paint issue

I guess I should have know not to use lacquer over acrylic primer. Hopefully it's a lesson learned. 🙂
Great video sorry your paint did not come up well. Frustrating! you will get there! I am just starting an old Tamiya BMW r80gs build soon and I am looking to replicate the decal sheet and test, trying to avoid the pitfalls with older model kits. looking forward to see you complete this.

Thanks, I was able to remove the paint and printed off a speedometer guage to apply. I just have to choose a colour from my craft acrylics.
I just decal paper and a product called Microscale liquid Decal film. I have not tested this yet, but I have seen this to be a good solution for old decals I bought this from Bare-metal foil compay.

Thanks for the comment, I think I do have an old can of decal sealer spray.
The bike looks great Steve. Too bad you had the paint problems, but at least it should be a fairly easy fix.

Once I get the paint off I'll use an acrylic.
If your primer isn't lacquer based thats why your paint bubbled probably. You can spray enamel over lacquer but not lacquer over enamels. Hopefully a quick sanding and you'll be on your way again!!!

A rookie mistake, I've been using craft acrylics for so long I forgot that they react with lacquers. I was able to remove the paint and reprime the parts, now to decide on an acrylic colour. 🤔
Don"t put lacquer over acrylic. Bike looks great, keep up the fight....lol

Thanks, I've been using only acrylics for so long I forgot. 🙂
