Tamiya TT-02B Project: Final Result: Street Buggy Tires, Wheels & Adaptors! (Episode 14)

She's alive again! Finally ready to mount the full set of Louise E-Rocket 1/10 4WD Buggy Street tires with pre-glued wheels that I've had lying idle for quite some time now ... and just thrilled to see the good old Tamiya TT-02B Dual Ridge again - body on, ready to run! More info below.
The Tamiya Ball Bearings, the Fastrax TT-02B Aluminium Parts and the new box at the end of the video were kindly sponsored by EuroRC, free for review and tests. Check out their huge RC Car collection and RC parts here with this (non-affiliate!) link: www.eurorc.com

This one required some fiddling with different wheel adaptors, wheel nuts, thread lock and a scissor in order to make everything fit but in the end she's good to go again ... Well, almost. I got one more correction and item coming up before it hits the street!
And nope! It's not metal gears, a waterproof 3S LiPo capable ESC or a brushless motor - those would make too much sense for this particular project - at this particular point - although we might get there in the end.
Right now I'm almost ready to start testing gear ratios and Tamiya brushed can motors ... which was the initial idea for this project before I got carried away. And due to work and kids and family time as the no. 1 priority - it took a lot longer to get it all done. Well, mainly due to the filming, video creation process and editing along the way.
Too bad the summer is gone now, it's constantly raining and the street is wet and full of puddles (well, this particular unit is not build to bash, jump or run in the rain). Hoping for a day with dry weather, dry tarmac and sunshine ... sometime soon.

    So the front ones are 9 mm and the other ones are 12 mm when I thought the usual ones are 12 mm so how's that going to work?

  • @NordicRC

    @NordicRC

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Brad. All are 12 mm hex. It’s just the length that is different. Standard are usually 4-6 mm long. The 12 mm hex GPM alloy ones in the video are 6 mm long, which I used for the rear. The 12 mm hex Carson (probably made by GPM too) alloy ones in the video are 9 mm long. I compare them side by side in the video. It’s meant to widen the stance/width … or like I did, to compensate for a different offset - to move the back side of the wheel away from the knuckle arms so they don’t touch/rub. The good thing is that it works. The bad thing is that it of course leaves less axle for the wheel nuts in the end. So I used some shorter wheel nuts for the front where I used the 12 mm extended 9 mm wheel adaptors. Hard for me to explain in English. Hope it makes sense now. If anybody else wonders: Like I showed in the video, both the 6 mm alloy and the 9 mm extended alloy in the video are a direct fit for the stock Tamiya wheels, front and rear.

    Goddag Mark! Yeah the tires/wheels will be great for the speed runs … that is, if it ever stops raining 🌧 We had a couple of good days in September but that was when I was working. Going RC’ing and filming will be a puzzle and a lottery for the next 6-8 months at least. Ohh, well, at least we have our work benches and indoor lights for the next 200 dark evenings 😊 Ahh, yeah, one more indoor video and swap for this one. I’m beginning to doubt it will be out and running before next spring. Weather forecast says rain and wind for the next two weeks. The weather gods must think we are still tough Vikings who can stand all that rain over here. They haven’t noticed we now are weak little hobbyists who just wants some sun. Hope the English weather gods are treating you better. All the best to you, Mark.

    Ah, that was too exciting, now I have to wait one more week to see what you got, Mikael! Super cool you managed to include some HBX parts on it, good job! Yeah, those front TT-02B wheels, I had same issue with mine, I actually had the wheel inside rubbing on the suspension arm, so quite a lot of plastic came off, so definitely next year I need to sort that out properly. I like those Carson hexes you got, the tapered inside looks well made. Nice video, I really enjoy that crisp clean style you got!
