"Fat lad from Bradford with an iPhone" 🤣 love it. Might have to build one of the variants of this chassis, looks fun. So far I've done the Super Sabre (1 in 1987 1 in 2020!), Lunch Box and a Super Clod Buster 👍

The cat is so beautiful .
There should be a couple cable ties in kit too tie down the black cover case you can see the two holes at the back ov it it stops it flapping about and helps surport the shock tower

It's a nice one... I always find those tamiya style shock are way to stiff.. I always try 10 and 15wt oil in mine they seem to work much better

I still have and run my OG Monster Beetle I bought and built in '87. Just found a 2015 version online today and ordered it. One of my favorite old school Tamiya vehicles. The looks I get when I show them the mechanical speed control/resistor set up, original Futaba G connector servos and 27 mhz radio I still use are absolutely priceless. The majority of guys today have no idea what we had back in the day. Things are so easy for them now...LOL. The stock set up is still plenty fast and the original oil filled shocks are still sealed and work beautifully. Not bad for a 35 y/o vehicle.
I remember my Blackfoot my Mum bought me back in 1991 had 2 bearings only and were displayed in the blister pack. Obviously to help reduce the failure rate of those metal pinion and side pinion gears.

Key to the front suspension security and to stop the clicking of the black case it the cable tie pulled tight and wrapped around the metal bar... it pulls the front frame tight to stop flex on the front suspension set up... I remember this note being missing on my monster beetle build in the 80s... but was on my Blackfoot re-release 🤔strangely Awesome video 👍🏻 and what a great looking truck!!
I just built a 2016 Blackfoot in the last month (first RC car I've put together in nearly 30 years), seeing this vid makes me want to buy the Beetle, too. Definitely a fun build!

Hi glen. On the subject of side cutters….. I use Xuron cutters. They are for clipping model railway track and make really clean cuts for sprues. Super sharp 👍🏻
Another iconic build, I remember when I was 14 the yellow CVA shocks meant that you were the bees knees of RC. still beautiful even today. I would put a softer weight oil in the front, the car has no weight in the front end. Have a great day Glen Thanks again for the great video. Apauline

I mounted the ESC as you did per the instructions on the kit. However, there is a better way to do this. Order the original aluminum mechanical speed control mount and put your ESC on that. Much better and easy access to the ESC too.
sweet kitty! mine likes to "help" me with my rc's too! great video, btw! im thinking about getting one of these, don't know why i haven't yet

Good video again makes me want to go and buy another one👍 you are going to have to fix that vibrating drive train because it will shake the the whole car to the extent it will be unusable I had the same problem with my first re-release beetle I exchanged the drive shafts for the Subaru brat drive shafts and cups that was the only thing that cured it? but weirdly my black special MB was perfect didn't have any problems when I built it🤷♂️

Thank you for putting this video out . I just purchased this rig because it was my first real big one in 1988. My first was the Hornet and as you know so simple so I mowed lawns and raked leaves to purchase the monster beetle and it was so worth it besides for the drive shafts they sucked .. hex bones stripped out all the time . So anyways Thanks brother

Very nice video. Here´s one tip. The dust cover can be fixed on the rear side with two zip ties. In my Blackfoot manual it´s recomended in step 28 (attaching the motor). This should stop the rattling on the chassis. I always wanted an ORV as I was a kid. Especially I liked the Frog. But in the late 80s we had no Internet to get one and it wasn´t rereleased from Tamiya. So this years spring I got a Blackfoot. Big fun to build, but a horror to drive. The car didn´t handle load changes. The propeller shafts poped out quiet frequently. The used CVAs are the third generation of shafts in the ORV. The second were dogbones and the first were hex-drives. If I can believe the community, the first generation was the best. At least my Blackfoot has now a highly modified chassis with many Ampro parts and the Super Ball Diff from MIP. But now it works.

Lovely build Glenn, love your youtube presenting style and content, keep it up.
When I built my ORV chassis (Blackfoot) It didn't stick the speed controller to the servo because it had 2 servos and a mechanical speed controller! That cover that screws to the front shock tower, it used to get screwed down at both ends.

Thanks for the videos!!
At 22:57 you forgot to install the wire ties through those slits in the corner of the cover and around the steel tube running across the chassis. It's not in the manual but it's shown on the cover photo of the manual. I used leftover foam from the kit to pad where it'll rub. The manual actually leaves a lot to be desired. The corrections sheet should be half the size of the manual. The lack of shimming for loose tolerances pissed me off too. The slop in the front wheels and the counter gear shaft retainers are NOT suppose to spin! UGH. They had several decades to work those things out. Love the channel. Take care!
for the shock spacers, i usually use nitro car's fuel tubing ,cut to the desired length, it'll compressed and also prevent bottoming out.

I noticed on my chassis the where the gearbox mounts the gap was too small for the gearbox so it was twisting the chassis apart. I filled the chassis wider to get a snug fit
Instead of grinding tools I recommend the citadel sprue cutters used for Warhammer . Gives a lovely clean cut and a nice little tool. By the way did you film this a while ago? I see running videos then the build video after?.

Great video as usual Glen. Great tip re cable ties on the drive shafts too - I thought it was a bit crap leaving them open to flap in the wind, but hadn’t thought about tying them closed like that - so thanks! I keep flipping/rolling mine / presumably me being too aggressive with it/lacking in skill - but be interesting for some feedback on if there’s a knack to setting them up? I have an MIP diff but haven’t fitted it yet (like tinkering so thought I’d buy it at a good price....). And have decided I need two body shells. One for the shelf and one for me to crash!
