Tamiya CC-01 Steering and Front Suspension Upgrade

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This aluminum parts from GPM Racing gives a better turning circle and less backlash.
Attention: Important Information!
After I used this setup I found out the following two issues:
1. The shaft, that goes thru the chassis where connected the two steering arms should be secured with loctite! Not only the screws, also the arms should be secured to the shaft with glue or loctite. Without this, these parts producing a lot of play.
2. I can not recommend the upper suspension arms shown in the video. There is a highly possibility the balls falling out during using. Better to use this parts here:

Everything works well, I'll mess around with it over xmas. Got some new tires, and suspension mods lined up. Merry xmas one and all!

    I found when I installed the GPM steering knuckles on my CC-01 that it can be difficult to keep Loctite out of moving components on the small pieces, so taking a small amount of bearing grease and lining the parts that need to move freely really helps. It lubricates the moving parts and prevents the thread locker from getting into it and hardening.

    Thanks! Yes, it improves the turning radius. The tires are the hop up tires and wheel combo for CC-01 from Tamiya www.tamiyausa.com/items/radio-control-parts-70/r-c-tires(spare-hop-up)-71200/rc-cc01-rock-block-tires-54554

    I know this isn't the place for such detailed questions but ... still new in the CC-01-world and could need some help. I have the super-hard Landfreeder stock-tires on mine still, but I think they are more for the road than off road. So a little anxious to buy some new Tamiyas. Looking for some softer ones for some all round off roading/light forest-trailing, but approx the same size as the stock ones so I can still use my Landfreeder body. Do you think these will be a good choice?

  • @Matteomeier

    @Matteomeier

    7 жыл бұрын

    Nordic RC Visions Yes, it's good to use custom tires on it. But you will not find good offroad tires from Tamiya. The rubber they use is too hard. And the size will be a bit bigger. I can recommend these tires: www.wemushop.ch/Fahrzeugzubehoer-Teile/Raeder-Reifen-Felgen/Crawler-Trial-762/-Wheel-Set-Crawler---Steelhammer---96mm-1-10--2-pcs--.html Maybe you have to lift up a bit the body with the body posts.

    Very good videos Matteo, an inspiration to me for sure! I have just bought a CC01 Cruiser Black Edition with the GPM steering arrangement and front skid plate already fitted but not the arms or C-hubs etc. I found that, as you say in the description, you definitely need the Loctite on the steering arm areas or there will be play after a run or so and it can round out the keyed shaft where you then can not get rid of steering slop. Unlike the GPM items I remember from 15 years ago these parts seem to have poor tolerances now. Can you please tell me if you have experienced issues with the rest of the suspension arrangement you have there? I, like most others want more steering and front travel but want to leave this particular chassis un-hacked using just bolt on parts.. I have made some cool custom RC's in the past, but this is my first "Scale trail" truck and being a Black edition I really don't want to chop it up for a front servo arrangement.

  • @Matteomeier

    @Matteomeier

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Camo B As first thanks for your compliments! The rest of the suspension works well except the upper arms shown in the video. As I wrote in the description I had some issues with falling out balls on this parts. I recommend to use this ones: www.wemushop.ch/Fahrzeugzubehoer-Teile/Tuningteile/GPM-Tuningteile-356/Tamiya-358/CC-01---XC-360/Front-upper-suspension-arm-CC-01---XC.html Only with the c-hubs, knuckle arms and steel universal shafts the steering angle will be better.

    zwar schon etwas älter das Video, aber ich frage dennoch ^^ um das "Wackeln" aus der Lenkung zu bekommen, reicht es auch, wenn man "nur" die GPM Alu Anlenkung und die GPM Spurstangen verbaut? Denn der Lenkeinschlag ist für mich völlig ausreichend... und Alu-Querlenker und was du sonst verbaut hast dürfte ja nichts an der Lenkung verbessern, oder? Gruß und vielen Dank P.S. deine Videos sind eucht klasse

    Danke fürs Lob, freut mich wenn meine Videos gefallen. Du hast recht mit den Teilen der Lenkung. Aber auch mit der Alu Anlenkung bleibt das Wackeln. Natürlich ist es einiges besser aber so wie die Anlenkung konstruiert ist wird die nie ganz Wackelfrei. Anderseits stört mich das auch nicht so, der Wagen fährt auch so Geradeaus.

    Absolute crap! Bought this thinking it would be a geat upgrade to reduce the steering slop from the stock plastic parts. I was wrong! Kit did not come with a manual to begin with so I had to figure out how to put it together. When I finally figured it out, the head of the screws would rub against the chassis. Biggest issue was the to arms that "key" into the pivot shaft was so shallow and soft that it would "round" itself out resulting in even bigger slop and no steering consistency. Typical cheap Chinese parts!! Garbage. Would never buy GPM junk and try and avoid buying from a greedy, money hungry, disrespectful, dirty , ugly, child labouring, animal cruelty, environmental destroyer country. I googled about the product and found similar issues that I had. For the record, I have 20+ years in the hobby and have never encountered anything this humiliating.

    I can understand this, and I agree. But with a bit of Locktite on the arms the play can be much eliminated. And the turning radius is much better with the upgrade.
