The best and worst breakup song. The last memory I had with her was taking her to Tame Impala, and we both cried during this song. We knew our relationship was coming to its close, but it was still a beautiful moment. I would not trade it for the world and I hope she’s doing well, even though the events immediately following us going to the show were less than pretty. Thank you Kevin Parker for your wonderful music, it really means so much to me. It has helped me through so many difficult and confusing parts of my life.

Always ascending, never falling. This dorito represents the perfection that we strive for; that which is nothing more than an abstraction of something we can never have. To become like the dorito is to stop being human, but to stop trying is to fall into the depths of despair.

I honestly believe this happens with good songs because the inspiration for the song comes from a higher power, almost writing itself, and we are in the end, part of the same collective energy, therefore technically the song is you an you are the song

1:51 "Wish I could turn you back into a stranger..." That part really hits me. It reminds me of my ex. Our relationship was complicated. If we never had gotten together, if we never had met that day and grew a bond that would eventually fall apart to nothing... we would've been happier, and our lives never would have changed. She'd be happier, and I would've been happier too. I wish I could turn her back into a stranger and forget the memories that still have a hold on me. *update* I have not spoken to her in almost 6 months, around the time I had written my comment. We were turning into strangers. It's for the better though. Life moves on.

I’ve loved this song for ages and there’s one line that always gets me... “I wish I could turn you back into a stranger”. This hits me so hard because it makes me think of all the people I’ve met, known and loved, and I wonder what it feels like if we just restarted everything, lost all those memories and started fresh. It also makes me think off how I would’ve started speaking to them, would I be open and honest straight away? Would I wait? Even now, talking to new people I wonder what it would’ve been like if maybe I just waited to think of something better to say, or got to know them in a different way. Maybe ‘eventually’ I’ll feel okay with how I’ve met those who I’ve known and loved and not open up to them so quickly, or maybe I’ll always spend my time thinking about how I met them “Cos if I was never in your life, you wouldn’t have to change”. But I know I’ll be happier.

Jamesthegooner you can’t say Kevin Parker is better than John Lennon. Kevin is clearly very inspired by the Beatles and his sound is totally inspired by them. I prefer to listen to Tame Impala than John Lennon by themselves, but Lennon was breaking grounds time and time again

The line "Wish I could turn you back into a stranger" hits really hard once you think about it. It makes me thing about my ex. She mentally abused me and manipulated me. It wasnt a fun chapter in my life. I really do wish I could turn her back into a stranger. It would be nice to not have those memories. Mainly only the bad ones. We had a good relationship in the beginning. I loved her. I loved her so much, but every good thing isn't good forever. Bad comes from good and its heartbreaking.

I liked this song because it related to my favorite book series, but everytime I listen to it more, I start to realize that this song relates to me in a sense. To me, this song isn't about someone else, it's about my feelings toward myself. I have been mentally struggling for years upon years to a point where I was overflowing, but never wanted to get help. Finally, a couple months ago, I made the courageous decision to get help. Terrified and worried, I found out that I have severe depression and anxiety. Possibly ADHD, as well. Besides that, I have a crazy schedule and it's been a lot, but I'm trying everything better, and I no matter how bad I want to forget the past, I try and move forward, knowing that I can be happier. Sounds mad deep, but it feels like my personal theme song if that makes any sense at all

Obsessed! This song was playing at Starbucks 2 weeks ago and it’s been on repeat for me ever since. Somehow Tame Impala bypassed me and I now after exploring see that he, Kevin, has a huge, devoted fan base. This song, Eventually, strikes me differently with each listen, it’s so beautiful, so moving, so true, so sad. Much love! ❤

I can’t explain how much I relate to this masterpiece. Every word in this song is how I felt when I was in my last relationship. I loved her so fkn much but it wasn’t a healthy one and I needed to get out. After I left her room I could hear her crying, it literally felt like “murder to put her heart through that”.

I think this album is gonna a be my of a grower for me. Diciples was actually my favorite so far, this coming in close 2nd. Way more electronic this time around obviously, but I enjoy more of the guitar sound then all these layers of synths and effects. It's still pretty damn good though, still very excited. Just wish kevs vocals were more at the forefront of the mix. Sometimes I can't really hear what he's saying especially at high volume, and I think he writes good lyrics. Often relatable and intimate in my opinion.

I love this song. Not just because its catchy, but because for me it gave new meaning to heartbreak, rejection, love and even my own demons. It helps me realize that even when things are bad there is a brighter view to it "i know that ill be happier and i know you will too" is what im referring to. As in it gives a sense of self forgiveness and even forgiveness towards others. So it shows eventually things can smooth over and become better for you or the other person. Literal therapy. Much love and i apologize for the literal essay. 😁

I open my mind up to it, and I really do like this. I have been repeating this and Let it Happen a lot lately. I love them. Kevin is an amazing musician, and he is truly gifted. I just ended a 7yo relationship this month. Since february I was losing my mind, I couldn't concentrate at work and I cried everyday. This album, and specially this song, helped me too much. It gave me strenght to face my fears, to start the process of sharing my thoughts and doubts, and to finally tell him I needed a time to focus on my own. It was tought, but I don't regret it! It was definitely the right thing to do. Thank you Kevin, and thanks for all the comments in this session. I wish happiness to all of you

respect everyone's interpretation of the song and what it means to them but, i'm seeing too many people comment about "wish i could turn you back into a stranger" without mentioning the subsequent lines that come after it... "'cause if i was never in your life, you wouldn't have to change it" i interpret that as the singer willing to give up the memories of the person he loves so they wouldn't have to change for him, which adds a sweetness to the bitterness of the first line, making it so much more heartbreaking to me 😭

I saw tame impala one night in my now exes city it was incredible. I wanted to experience this band for years and he is a huge fan being from Perth. Around 3 years my now ex and I were together. We were in and out of each others home town. I ended up moving for him. We loved each other so much I couldnt even begin to describe it to you. We were best friends and we were unstoppable. Later, I lost a pregnancy and depression hit me like a truck. The relationship began to be extremely testing. We tried so hard to make it work but it seemed like the world was against us or pulling us in opposite directions. Toward the end there was more pain in our relationship than happiness and we couldnt salvage anything. We made a lot of mistakes. As much as we wanted to keep trying we were only making each other miserable. I didn't want us to be in pain. We didn't recognise ourselves anymore. We were suffocating. So much anger. So I left. It's been 8 months. We used to keep in contact and say we will be together again one day when the time is right and get it right but now I see we were kidding ourselves. We both knew letting go was the realistic option but the love and hopefulness of change was too strong. He finally shared with me a couple days ago its time to move on. My heart yearns for him and the pain still lingers but I know that I will be happier and I know he will too, eventually. ❤

Crazy how one person who was once a stranger can have such big impact in your life to the point that they change your perspective and maybe even cause a personality shift. I wish I could turn that person back into a stranger... It's been 4 years now idk until when am I going to wake up without them being the first thing popping up on my mind. I wish I could just erase their existence in my life and live without knowing who they are.
