This video goes over a one of the most compact kits in the market. As a guitarrist who loves drums and recording, I sometimes play music with friends but often times there is no drumset. These drumsets are amazing portable drumsets and they sound great.
In this part one of the video we can take a look at the Pearl Compact Traveler, and get an idea through the video of how compact it is, and at the same time get an idea of what its most similar competitor is like as well.

If you'd listen to the original review of the Tama company for that same kit.. it's tuned to the specific kit..and, man! It sounds awesome

I agree, I have recently gone on a more resonant jazz tuning (high tuning) with calfheads and it's what I'm using live.

Nice video man, appreciate someone showing off the portability of this kit, which was what I was primarily curious about. I would change the title though, to reflect that it's part 2 of the comparison. This didn't show up on KZread search, though the other one did, and I had to go into your channel itself to find this. Thanks!

OO wow thank you soo much for pointing that out.... Im glad it was usefult. The Pearl is way more portable, and its what I use when I need the ultimate portabilit, but this TAMA sounds SOOOoooo good.

@@SimpleAndyRock that's great to hear! I'm looking for a portable gigging kit as I live in an apartment. Had some experience with the Pearl and was curious about the Tama. Thanks again for the comparison!

I have the TAMA pancake kit. I bought it specifically for jamming at acoustic guitar jams.

Hello! Nice video it has helped me a lot. Does the throne fit in the drum sets case? Also how many inches is your ride? I want to see how big cymbals the drum sets case fit.

I am one of those who bought an 18 inch Evans EMAD bass head for the Tama Pancake and it did not fit either hoop. I then put it on my 18 inch Catalina Club bass batter hoop and it fit. Put the CC batter head on the tama and it fit. A Remo Calfskin head sounded like paper on the batter side so I put it on the reso head and the kick has nice deep tone now. Coated emperors on the toms tuned medium high really boom. Coated Ambassador for the snare batter was an upgrade too, but not as much difference as getting rid of those plastic tom heads.

Indeed. I changed all the heads to evans and I love the tone. Snare I switch to calftone. It's goodnto highlight you had issues with kick drum heads... I didn't but saw another comment mentioning the same, so maybe there is some QC issue going in hmmm

Great comparison, but didn’t need all of the cymbals. Looking for the sound of the actual drums to hear the difference.

Which bags are you using for packing? And the head on the bassdrum is the Evans Emad, right?

  • @ianmuessig

Did you have any issues fitting the Evans heads on the bass drum? I have a read a bunch of reports of people saying the bass drum hoops are very undersized and don't seat well on Evans heads (if even seat at all) without forcing them.

No issues, but it needs to be a bass drum head, and not a tom head. 18" tom heads are slightly different. Maybe those people were using 18" tom batter heads. The metal collar is different in the tom heads. I've tried a few different 18" heads without issue, so I'm going by that. By the way if budget allows, do check out sidekick drums for their pancake kickdrum... I got their 22x6 and OMG, it sounds huge

Ça manque quand même cruellement de basse au niveau des toms et du floor Tom, ça tue complètement l'âme de la batterie

When its tuned a bit higher, with EMAD on the kick drum it actually resonates a bit better, which provides a bit more bass (even if the pitch may be higher). But yes, it will not achieve the same level of low end bass as a larger set of drums. It can work great for some genres of music still.

@@FrizzyDiouleBiGbonus maybe from spanish it works better.

Your tuning of that kit is too low..it almost sounds untuned.. Each drum size is made for a specific pitch..

  • @SimpleAndyRock

    @SimpleAndyRock

    7 ай бұрын

It is tuned low. Each drum does have its own relative pitch. But anyway, I should've made the video showing the drums in different tunings. High, mid, and low tunings as well as the mathematical tension that would get the most resonance for each circumference. Perhaps in the future I can do that. Nowadays, I am enjoying a more resonant tuning with calftone heads
