Talking Watches With Hurley Haywood, Legendary Race Car Driver

Ойын-сауық

If you love motor racing, especially endurance racing, Hurley Haywood needs no introduction. The Chicago-born racecar driver has earned a career that would make him the hero of any aspiring racer, including five wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, two overall wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring, and three victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Yes, that's a twofer for the triple crown of endurance racing, and those are only the highlights. Haywood is nothing short of a road-racing legend, and he's enjoyed a five-decade partnership with two very important names in the world of endurance racing, Porsche and Rolex.
From all of Hodinkee, we'd like to offer a huge thanks to Hurley, our friends at Porsche, and the fine folks at the Brumos Collection for helping make this video possible. If you're like me, and you love cars and watches and all the ways those two worlds overlap, it's hard to overstate just how much fun it was to chat with Hurley and hear the stories of his racing, his watches, and many of the cars featured at the museum.

22 years ago I had the greatest honor and pleasure to spend 2 days at Road Atlanta. My wife gave me the Porsche Driving Experience. Hurley was my instructor for those 2 days. I asked Hurley if he was wearing one of his Daytonas. He said no. He then showed me the Yachmaster. What a terrific gentleman and legend.

Rolex seeks this guy. Even if its "another box of Rolexes".. this man has achieved them. He had a good relationship with the former chairman of Rolex (which many people could only dream of), the watches were thoughtful gifts for his accomplishments... Hard work and passion. So its funny how some people without any sense of " Watch and Story" would just dismiss these timepieces as something like a blurr among the other comments below.. Like they've achieved something.. ... From a box of stuff -- The Devil wears Rolex
