Talking Point Is On A Rat Hunt And We Need Your Help!

Singapore is facing a growing rat problem. The National Environment Agency (NEA) said it detected more than 5,000 burrows in 2023 - an increase of 1,000 from the previous year - and there could be many more undetected.
Steven Chia and the #TalkingPoint team are mapping out rat activity across Singapore and your sightings will help us track where rodent populations are in real-time, pinpoint some of the hotspots, and what’s being done about these pests. Check out the rat map here: cna.asia/ratmap
Share your sightings with us via email at TalkingPoint@mediacorp.com.sg, WhatsApp at 9124 3305, or DM @cnainsider on Instagram.

Was at the Value Dollar shop near Braddell MRT one night (2-3D ago$) and choosing chips when I thought I saw a shadow from the corner of my eye. I didn’t think too much of it until I felt claws and something run over my right foot. I shrieked and started jumping on the spot (lol I was in shock) and the staff hurried over. He shook the shelves to try to make sure nothing hid beneath the shelves. Bought mouthwash with alcohol to pour over my foot and a bottle of water to wash it. I feel so grossed out even as I think of it. Eeeew.

The reason is not hotter weather. Rats don't care if it's 28 C or 34 C. They live underground, and mostly come out in the evenings. Singapore is not anymore as squeaky clean as it once was, and some people seem to have a lack of understanding of this being a problem.

ive seen cats lose to the rats since the rats gang up on the cat and since the rat is also kinda huge like 60% the size of the cat. they come out usually 11pm onwards to feed on the cat food people leave for the cats.

@@ainzooalgown7589 The rats are well fed with food added with multivitamin supposed for the cats. Initially my thought was those little mouses running around. OMG! It was rats the size of 60% of the cat as you mentioned. 😳
