Agree 100%. He did a great job with us.

Legend. He’s looking great for his age. Ken did a great job at Chelsea and the fans shouldn’t forget that.

Ken had his dark side but he kept Chelsea from going under all those years. I wish to God there was a politician who had the guts and drive to turn around Great Britian the way he did with CFC in 83/84. His book 'Chelsea My Year' of that season is most illuminating. Especially when he took over the club.

He is amazing for his age, and he left Chelsea in good hands

He had to sell Chelsea as we were about to be wound up, almost went the same way as Leeds ironically. He treated Matthew Harding appallingly and fitted an electric fence around the pitch, and worse of all refers to Farage as one of his hero’s…!!

@@markcf83 I know, I stayed clear at the time. It wasn’t just Chelsea but an electric fence wasn’t a fix for societies problems… I thought it was disgraceful.

@@LeedsUnitedJohn hes without probably one of the worst modern club owners going. Forget Gillett and hicks for Liverpool, Mike ashley for Newcastle or glazers for man utd, he was a nightmare

I wish Ken wound write another book on the final days at Chelsea. He "My ChelseaDream" was fantastic!

This man was great for Chelsea, a club that could easily have fallen into the second division. He was the kind of plucky working class old-school chairman that had that rare quality of common sense and wits about him to deal with the adversity, that kind of toughness is sadly lost on the younger generations. Chelsea fans know precisely what he did for the club.

Big love to Ken, he's old school and spot on with his views, always liked Ken, and I'm an Arsenal fan 👍, but Ken is brilliant.

Always outspoken, never silenced. As I seem to recall he owned a farm near Beaconsfield which was not far from where I lived at the time.

Great bloke was Ken. Happy to trust him with the stewardship of my beloved Leeds United after he did so well with the Irish Trust Bank. Robust dealings with the natives in the Virgin Islands and eventually managed to offload Leeds to the wealthy and successful gulf hedge fund, GBH. Of course GBH would not have become involved without the foresight of Mr Bates. Thanks Ken, glad to see you're still dribbling on. When is Radio Yorkshire coming back?

i remember doing some research on Bates when he was trashing our club We found out he once owned a bank in Ireland and it went Bankrupt How are you allowed to ruin a bank and still be in business? He was a disaster for Leeds hated ever moment he was at Leeds Odious arrogant greedy self serving bar steward There;s not many people i dislike but Bates is one of them
