A nice memory: I worked as an extra here in Atlanta on "First Man." After going through wardrobe and makeup, my group of extras were free to grab breakfast. While standing in the back of the line, somebody bumped into me while walking between tents (wardrobe and makeup were housed in HUGE tents, along with crafty). I turned to see who it was and recognized him immediately: it was Damien Chazelle, in jeans and a hoodie like any of the other crew. I pointed him out to the other extras, who seemed more interested in the omelets than one of the best directors in the last decade. I wish I had said something. I got the chance to do another, smaller scene later on with Ryan Gosling (got to strap him into the spacecraft). Both of them were SO intent on getting every little detail right. It was nice to see their enthusiasm. I'll also say that "First Man" had the best extra training of any film I've been on - they went out of their way to make the extras understand the time period of the film and the context. Really well done. This was a great interview!

I hope he knows that a lot of people love his movies and personally I think Babylon is a modern masterpiece and truly don’t understand the critical reception of the movie. He’s one of the best directors working today and Babylon again was a masterpiece.

Babylon will be much more appreciated in 10-15 years. It was very ambitious in its scope and well made, although the story itself wasn't quite as magnetic as it needed to be. It's a film you can watch multiple times to appreciate its size and cinematic beauty so Chazelle can be proud of his efforts.

All the BS directors who get a "100" chances, Chazelle better be able to make more movies. My only problem with Babylon is it feels too long. The direction is still amazing.

I have mixed feeling on Babylon as some of it was brilliant and some was too excessive. When I went to see it, a number of people walked out in the first 10 minutes after the gross scene with the elephant. That's part of the reason it flopped

So Damien Chazelle's not going to talk about stealing his ex-wife's ideas, hard work, and connections for Whiplash and La La Land..and then kicking her immediately to the curb? Okay.
