Talking Pedestrian Traffic Light in San Diego, California

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It seems the pedestrian traffic signals in San Diego are talking in a pretty harsh voice. “Wait! Wait! Wait!” Once the light turns white, it announces the street which is safe to cross.
This film is shot at the intersection of La Jolla Village Drive and Towne Centre Drive in the district of University City in San Diego, California.
Enjoy.

The five-points intersection traffic signals in Goderich, ON in Canada have these. They tend to malfunction a lot here for some reason. The annunciator tends to go out and the haptic feedback in the button still works at least. It rumbles the button when the signal is on. They don't tell people to wait or announce the street name when the sign is in. It says, "walk sign is on" preceded by either a two tone beep or a chirp like sound. Instead of "wait"' it makes a ping sound each second for the blind to find them. If you hold the button down it tells you the direction on the street.

Those are Polara Navigators, there are everywhere and they are for the blind. You can actually press the button and wait 5 seconds and then it'll say the street you are crossing. Depending on how it was programmed, it'll say wait every 5 seconds.

We have a similar light by my house and in the village 5 minutes away. It says "Wait" if someone pushes the opposite side button while one side's crossing!

I cant stand those talking buttons. I live right next to those annoying things and they constantly beep all night and when the walk signal is on, it talks at a very loud volume and it drives me nuts. Some other ones make a loud sound that sounds like someone is shooting. Sorry but I prefer the old bird audio. I hate modern signals.

But it does help blind people, which is why they implemented in my town. On the flip side I would be annoyed to if I had to live next to one. :(

I lived about 4 blocks from the intersection that had these and if the wind was blowing just right you could hear them. That being said, they're there for a reason so you have to tolerate them. My example was two Ontario Provincial highways intersecting with a busy street coming off of our town square, colloquially known as the five-points. It's one of the more dangerous intersections in our town.

Reasons when I love these talking buttons (or some modern signals): 1. As long as I don't live right next to the buttons. 2. These buttons make me think I'm having fun. 3. I normally see these buttons when I go bike-riding. When the walk signal turns on, it tells me "[street name], walk sign is on to cross" or "Walk sign is on". Some other ones make a rapid tick sound (aka machine gun).

@@mustange550I would be annoyed, on the flip side, if I lived next to these buttons because: 1. I wouldn't be able to focus on my homework during school days (because the talking buttons would interrupt me from my work and it would drive me nuts). 2. During the night, I wouldn't be able to sleep as the buttons would wake me up.
