@mi channnal Yeah and at no point was she just eye candy. She knew how to throttle that bass!!!
The early years of the Heads were exciting. They were raw and not particularly accomplished musicians but they brought an energy that was infectious. You could not sit still when you saw them perform. Their musicianship improved over time and they left a lasting impression on popular music rarely equaled. So wonderful to have access to this early show.
In 1980 Italy just opened up the doors to international live shows after the "anni dì piombo" (terrorism years in the seventies). You can feel the hunger for music and the excitement in the crowd...
the best band with the clever singer ever for sure!!!

Man, you are one lucky s.o.b! This was just one of the best performances from a live band ever!
I saw Talking Heads with this same lineup on October 20th 1980 at the Hollywood Palladium, in California. The English Beat also played that night. This was the best lineup of the band with Adrian Belew on guitar. The set list was similar to this but much longer with 14 songs ending with a the Great Curve. Too bad there is not more video of this band from this time period. This was their peak. The set list on this video is incomplete and should include the Great Curve starting at around 57 minutes. "The world moves on a woman's hips".
In 1980, I was 17 and already a fan via "Fear of Music", but I can only imagine how it would have blown my mind and influenced my musical direction if I'd been at a show like this that early on...

Nice contrast between the way Adrian Belew plays guitar, and Tina Weymouth plays bass. One looks connected to the instrument, the other looks like a tool user. I like Tina Weymouth's playing w/ Tom Tom Club & THeads, but she reminds me a bit of Ira Kaplan in her playing. Adrian Belew is more like Hendrix, just as if the guitar was always part of his body from birth. Jerry Harrison seems happy to play keyboards and let Adrian Belew wail away for lead guitar. And Chris Frantz is smiley man on the drum kit!

My favourite band. I envy anyone who had the opportunity to see them live. The closest I have come was seeing David Byrne live. It was a great showing which mixed solo and Talking Heads songs. I also got to meet Tina Weymouth (looking very cute here) and Chris Frantz when they made an in store appearance and got a couple TH albums signed by both. They were appearing a couple days later at a nearby club (where David performed years earlier) as the Tom Tom Club. I never really got into them apart from Genius of Love.
Belew made an already great, unique band that much better. There is no other guitarist like him; maybe the closest was Eddie Van Halen who could compete with that insane squealing, sound effects, and trickery.
Any band with Bernie Worrell, Adrian Belew, Busta Jones and Chris Frantz in the lineup is alright by me.
