Notes :
When Talking Heads debuted their extended lineup for Heatwave festival, they did not expect such a great response from the public. For the second show with the new line-up, Talking Heads performed at home, "safe" in New York City.
For many reasons, this NYC gig is really important. First, because it's still one of the very first shows of the "Extended Heads", and also because it was the very begining of a new era in music. The band were still producing their 4th LP, "Remain In Light", which wasn't out yet. So when people turned up to the gig, they were surprised with 1) a few extra members on stage and 2) five new songs people never heard live, including a "Fear Of Music" classic, "I Zimbra", which couldn't be performed live before the band got an extended line up.
As the gig was already uploaded twice on youtube, I still wanted to upload one of my very favourite Talking Heads show, but not without a few tweaks. First and foremost, I was able to collect both sources, one from the soundboard, the other from the audience (the one that already got uploaded).
With these two sources, I did a "matrix" mix of both, creating a very strong audio mix for most of the show. This being a semi-matrix, "Psycho Killer", half of "Warning Signs", "Take Me To The River" and "The Great Curve" were missing from the SBD source, I then took the time to clean-up the sound of the audience source a bit, making it a little bit more dynamic.
In the end, you get a "Definitive Version" of one of the very best show from that tour.
As usual, thanks to the tapers.

I was there too! The best concert I've ever witnessed. It felt like the Wollman Rink was levitating... and I wasn't even high!!

I even remember what I wore to this, gloriously grooving in my cap sleeve purple t-shirt, next to my dear friend Tom (may he rest in peace), trying to catch Jerry Harrison's attention. Nirvana.

From the opening notes of Psycho Killer, thru Warning Sign, Stay Hungry, and Cities, the afrobeat rhythms from I Zimbra elevated each of these songs. I remember being enveloped, taken away by what I was hearing, seeing and feeling from the stage. While Remain in Light ended up being Talking Heads least commercially successful album, this Central Park concert was one of the greatest concerts I've experienced. That nights rendition of Born Under Punches, Crosseyed And Painless, Life During Wartime, Take Me To The River and lastly The Great Curve were explosive. The "We're not what we used to be anymore" sound of this larger Talking Heads band of musicians was a punk funk jazzalicious gospel loving celebration of sound. Thanks for the excellent audio from that magical night.

Thank you so much for uploading! As somebody who's heard this concert in many different forms, this is really a fantastic recording! I'm currently working on a project on Busta Jones and looking for any sort of recordings from this tour of the band, and your uploads have really help fill in some of the gaps! Do you possibly have some more solo Jerry stuff? Busta and him were in the band The Escalators together as well as a bunch of other projects!

Thanks for your nice comment ! I'm working on uploading some 1980/1981 gigs in the near future. About Jerry, sadly, I don't have anything else other than his 1988 Milwaukee show. I keep my eyes peeled everywhere on the internet though, I'm sure we will get to another decent bootleg one day ! I've read about The Escalators, but never heard any of their music. Their only EP is pretty rare I guess

@@Blank_Frank Ive never seen the EP in the wild at a store or anything, it's not too expensive on places like Discogs. After working on this project for a few months now, I've grown to appreciate Busta's sound so much more, unlike the rest of the band, he didn't usually start on stage, but when the band needed that extra "umph" with I Zimbra, Busta comes on, one of the first times the band experimented with the idea of "growth" during their show, which of course is pivotal to later band projects, the guy's a legend!
