Talking About the Weather in English - Spoken English Lesson

In this class, you’ll learn how to talk about the weather in English. Talking about the weather in English can help with your conversation skills. We will teach you phrases, idioms, and vocabulary to describe weather in English. Continue improving speaking and vocabulary with an English teacher: bit.ly/ooe-teachers.
Do you know what it means if someone says 'it’s chucking it down today?' If someone says 'it’s baking today', do you know what they are talking about?
British people are famous for talking about the weather. Do you know why? It’s because in the UK we have a lot of weather. You never know what the weather will be like. You can have all four seasons in one day.
We are going to look at a typical British day, so the weather is going to be very changeable. This means that weather can change quickly and unpredictably. It can be sunny, and then 30 minutes later, it will start snowing.

Thank you so much for this video. I heard a lot that British people can talk about weather for few hours, but I can’t imagine the words. Since I only knew few weather words, such as, cold, sunny, windy, drizzle and snow. This video really helps me a lot to talk about weather.

To English speaking Brits, this video is quite amusing. It highlights many things; how obsessed we are with weather, plus the words and terminologies we use to describe it. I regularly use most of those highlighted in the video.

Excellent video. It helps a lot to enlarge vocabulary and expressions. The only detail which sounds weird to me, is the pronunciation of the vowels in "says" ...I thought the only possibility was "sez"...so it may be connected to a particular British accent.

I live in Vietnam where the weather has 4 distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In spring, it's usually drizzling and a bit chilly, so my clothes are always damp and smelly. In summer, the sun is blistering and it can be scorching hot, actually, there isn't a cloud in the sky. It usually has a couple of heavy showers in the afternoon. A period of hot weather sometimes ends with a thunderstorm. I love autumn the most because the weather is warm, breezy and so cool. You can put on T-shirts or light jackets,...The winter is sometimes freezing cold, and you can see your breath! Every winter morning is frosty and I definitely want to bundle up! But at noon, the weather is always dry and makes my skin so dry. That's the reason why I don't feel like winter!

Thanks a lot for new words and idioms. Let me tell you about the weather in México City. Autumn mornings are often chilly. During the morning is so quiet and we have sunny days, but after meddle day it can change. If the clouds appear on the sky, I want to say that overcast some times it will star raining in the afternoon and sometimes could be chucking it down, but some times rain in a little areas around the city. The most important storm happened in the night. Only in the summer could be coiling day. We never have frost day, obviously never have snow day.

Great, Rene! Here are a few suggestions: 1) 'During the morning it is so quiet...' not, 'During the morning is so quiet'. 2) '...but in the afternoon it can change,' not, '...but after meddle day it can change'. 3) '...appear in the sky,' not, 'on'. Hope this helps you!
