Tales from the Writers' Room - Conscious Robots. Part one: The Rise of Darius.

The first episode of this new style of RPG for KZread. Rather than an all-knowing games master and players each controlling one character, we have a collaborative writing team, and the scenes are about the characters interacting with each other more than with a hostile world.
The setting: London A.D. 2052, some robots are developing consciousness. How will humanity react? The men from the Ministry of Robotic Affairs are conflicted, and the public is divided.
The video setting up the characters and situation: • Tales from the Writers...
Episode two: • Tales from the Writers...
Episode three: • Tales from the Writers...
Cameras operated by jenny Dinwoodie and Raven Hall.

Why can I only press “like” once whilst watching this? Every subsequent press of that button decommissions my subsequent press but there is at least 15 subsequent occasions where I feel a pressing of the like button was deserved/warranted. Lindy and crew, this is amazing! We had a video a year or so ago about a system of drama & rpg & writing method, and now we have examples of it in action! And it works! More of this please

I like that it seems like the first glimmer of consciousness seems to be a kind of logical paradox or I guess to use other big words, a cognitive dissonance. Basically, just get the robot to question itself. So, to make a robot more human, you just have to hurt its self-confidence. Sounds about right.

I really like the idea behind this roleplaying system but I have to say that I don't think that the android theme works well with it. I feel like having half of your characters be emotionless robots is super difficult to pull of well with improv.

If this is to happen again, may I suggest a fixed camera on the players? I know the cameraman is trying his best, but the wobbling around was a little motion sickness inducing. Additionally, perhaps establish to the players to signal when they feel like the scene to end, and when all parties in the scene have signaled it, then you can cut the lights. Otherwise it may lead to awkward moments where the scene seems to abruptly end when there was more exchanges to be had. Speaking of lighting, the close-ups are great, but the main one was a bit too sensitive on the one shining on you.

To have consciousness one needs the womb of a female. If one only sees the mental dimension even the physical dimension is hard too see. Conan Doyle who was very spiritual based his Sherlock Holmes character on this thing where most can not see the physical because they are trapped in the mental dimension. Then only when clearly seeing the physical can seeing the spiritual dimension begin. At the same time the words robot or alien make it hard to access the complete and deep understanding on this topic of soulless beings like robots or deformed weakly connected to soul humans who want to hide what they really are("alien").
