When my dad got our new 2140 tractor in 1980 I that it was amazing and loved that tractor. I remember a couple of times when my dad would be out working the field after midnight and I would wake up and walk through the fields towards the tractor lights and standing waiting off to the side till he stopped. I remember many times falling asleep on the tractor or combine. Today my son's do the same. I freaked my mother out when I did that, now my wife freaks out when my boys do the same over the years. Love it. Farm life is the best to grow up on.

Alright, I haven’t been around that long but my dad has. He always tells this story of when he worked at a farm near central Ohio, one of his co-workers bought an international 1206 (from what I think, haven’t checked) and was told not to go into a wet spot in the field, he took off in that 1206 and immediately went into that wet spot and got stuck so my dad spent the better part of a few hours getting him out. So, there’s my dad’s tales from the field story! 🙂

The first tractor i learned to drive was a John Deere 50. Spent hours driving circles around the shop in first gear. Then, I spent most of my childhood pulling bale wagons and Knight forage boxes with it. The first "big" tractor i drove is a 4020. Still have both and as far as I'm concerned they can bury me sitting on the 4020. In 76 years of my family being on this land we have expanded in both land and horsepower.

A newer story but an old tractor. In the spring of 2021 I was 12 and bought my first tractor, a 1984 John Deere 316. I spent all my birthday money I had been saving up over the years to buy it. With the help of my dad we got it running, I remember that very first time it fired up and driving it around the yard. With some heavy modifications we got the 318 dual hydraulics on it. It always has and always will be my happy place. Some of my relatives said that I should save up for a car or that there is no point in buying a tractor. I still have yet to regret that purchase and I now have just recently bought a John Deere 318. I think my love for tractors started on my grandpa’s early 80’s John Deere 214 when I was still to little to push the clutch in. Once you start buying tractors you can never go back. I find myself making excuses to go out and fire it up all the time. Last week it was the first snow of the year and I told my brother that I was going to drive it, he said “it’s just going to get all muddy and your wasting gas” I then proceeded to drive it for 3 hours around the yard. Thank you for reading hoped you enjoyed😊

I'm 11 years old and I live in central Iowa and I have a John Deere 265 1991 model my Grandpa bought it brand new in 1992 and then in 2003 when my uncle got his own house he took it with him without telling my grandpa and then they got really mad at each other and then we didn't have them all anymore so we had to buy another Mower in 20 years later I got it but the deck was all rusted to hack and then I bought a blade for it and I got chains on it and I've had it for 3 years is the best mower I've ever had and probably the best lawn mower ever will have

My dad bought a new 1948 John Deere, the year I was born. I was main tractor until he got a '60', then 730 diesel and a 4030. When dad retired in 2008, it sold for $4200!!

My grandpa worked on a farm with his father, it was just a leased farm, but I know my great grandpa loved it. My grandpa has many stories, but I’ll just give a quick overview of his farm, he had a Massey 510 combine, a super 92 combine, a 4020 power shift, a caterpillar (not sure what model) and another Massey (not sure what tractor model) but they had quite alot of acreage (Atleast for the 60s- early 70s), they farmed to the East of my hometown which is rather hilly, but it worked out well as they still have some money from it.

When my grandfather was young his grandfather handed control of his cotton farm to his Uncle who promptly sold the mules they had always farmed with and bought a John Deere MT. Well my Great-Great Grandpa decided he wanted to go to the store and that the tractor would be best to ride to make the two mile trek. The problem with that however was he only had the bare basic knowledge on how to start and drive the thing because of his prior experience consisting only of mules and he didnt know to fill it with water because they let it out after each use due to how expensive antifreeze was. Well he started it and by the time he got to the store the engine was so hot it refused to even stop running! Finally one of the store patrons came out seeing the cherry blockwas so hot and yelled for them him to turn the iddle all the way down, shut off the sediment bowl and dump the clutch in another gear. Finally he shut them down Great-Great Granpa went home and my grandfather and his uncle went to retreive it when they came back from work, luckily somehow it didnt damage the tractor they filled it with more water and drove it home under its own power.
