Taking the Ferry to Crab Island (Pulau Ketam), Malaysia. An Incredible Experience.
Ferries, trains, and a monorail! It certainly wasn't a quick (or easy) day out to Crab Island from my hotel room in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. But what a day it was - and well-worth the time it took to get there!
Come with me as I show you how to travel to the island from the centre of KL, how much it costs, what the trains and ferry are like and what to do when you get there. It really was a fantastic day out for me to somewhere that I guess not a lot of tourists really go to? After a few negative experiences I'd had on my earlier travels, this really made up for it and made me feel quite emotional by the end. And that's something travel can do to you isn't it - maybe even one of the reasons we travel, for moments and memories like this (it certainly is for me anyway).
It's a bit of a different video this for me and I'm not really sure many people will watch it. I wanted to upload it anyway, if only to capture my experience to look back on in later years. I really appreciate those of you that do give it a go though, it's certainly encouraging.
Hope you enjoy it and, as always, cheers for now.
Mark

Cheers mate. Yep this sort of thing, for me, will be a ‘low view count’ video. But I wanted to put it out anyway and share the experience. One of the best times I had in Malaysia 😊👍
It's like a different world this, absolutely loved it, like you say - proper travel!

Great vid Mark it’s really nice to see someone making videos of a few obscure locations that not many visit. Most travel KZreadrs end up sounding like they’re advertising but yours is truly original. Keep up the great work👍

Cheers mate, that means a lot! I’m certainly not aspiring to be any more polished tbh lol and I don’t have sponsors knocking at my door either! Just trying to travel a bit and keep it honest really. Glad you enjoy it 😊
Nothing better than visiting a place off the tourist map . You have your eyes opened and get a great sense of achievement that you've achieved something most people never try !

Cheers Caleb. Yes, one of the highlights of the trip tbh. Not the usual kind of video for me but I really wanted to make it just for the memories as much as anything else 😊
I'm binge watching though all your stuff, your my new favourite youtuber. I love everything that you do, your polite, humble and very likable. I'm from Llangollen and live in Wrexham so I like seeing them at your train and bus stopes every now and then. Love the aberrystwth video, I might drive to Shrewsbury and take the train one day. I never realised. Take care. ❤

Cheers mate, appreciate the support! Shrewsbury’s worth a trip yes. Take the train from Wrexham General I would (less hassle) and enjoy the town. If you see me about, say hi 😊
Thanks for another great product, would I go there? been once and I will never go again frankly it was a horrible experience but that's the way traveling goes. Take care and stay safe, cheers.

Thanks Simon. It’s good to hear someone else has been, though it doesn’t sound like you had a great time and believe me, I’m all too familiar with that feeling. Like you said, just gotta be honest and travel doesn’t always end up like you might expect. Cheers mate.
Such an interesting place to visit, the locals seemed very friendly and as you say, exploring somewhere different rather than the usual tourist places. Thank you Mark for this very informative video.

It was mate! One of those places I’d have liked to have stayed longer but last boat of the day was 30 minutes away and I had to go. I won’t go back because they’re never quite the same again I don’t think. Will live long in the memory though 😊

Really enjoyed that Mark, thanks very much! As always, great content! Fascinating to see travel done properly, off the beaten track. But done with such confidence, but an enjoyable, non-arrogant confidence. Love it Mark, keep it up and…….. cheers for now!

A great mix of transport used there. Like most people I was not familiar with this island and you can clearly see on Google Maps that virtually the whole island in mangrove covered except for the two stilt villages. Glad it was a great end to your trip.

Yes it is - I should’ve mentioned the mangrove actually. There was so much I could’ve added but like you said, it was a great end (almost) to the trip.
An amazing video and so cool to enjoy exploring somewhere unique with you. Great work mate.

Yes Linda, I thought there’d be loads of crabs too! I couldn’t bring myself to eat one - I’m not big on that kind of choose your meal from a tank thing tbh!
Problem is the klang straits is polluted. Used to be very dirty, now a bit better as they are given formal and informal education about cleanliness and recycling.

That was great! Loved the island and, as you say, what a difference from places you will normally visit. Can you possibly give the railway a break if the train has lots of station stops bringing the avge speed down? I mean I wonder how long it takes for a District line train to get from Wimbledon to Upminster? It may have a similar average speed 🤷♂️ Anyway, of you recent ones, that's the one I enjoyed most. Nice one 👍
