Taking the Back with Espen Mathiesen ( Part 1 The X Hook)
Спорт
This video Espen Mathiesen overviews one of the most powerful controls in Jiu Jitsu. The X hook is a variation for taking the back from a crab ride. It is often less stressful on the neck and very easy to transition to from the Berimbolo. Tommy Langaker and Espen Mathiesen have been using this technique at the highest levels of black belt competition over the last years with great success. Please John do some more videos with Espen and Tommy man I love they're jiu jitsu it's so precise and detailed I appreciate it !
Very enlightening! It made the berimbolo/matrix connection very clear and straight-forward to me now. It even connects to X-Guard! Mind blown!
I know this vid is 2 years old but i had to log in and leave a like and comment. The details in here about the normal bolo, that first 'wedge' position, the awkwardness of the way everyone shows going from the wedge to the twister hook, the grips and that arm detail - and the absolute genius of the x hook. This was so helpful along with your crab ride material, thanks!
Awesome video Senseis. Espen is a phenomenal instructor.

Wow. Top level instruction. Hope you continue this series as it's relevant to some of the things I've been trying to improve. Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Thank you guys! I've been following both of your content in the past couple months and the detail and concepts of RDLR, X hooks, etc. are phenomenal..I feel like I'm cheating getting these details
Your videos are never a disappointment 🔥
Thanks Jon and Espen
Espen is the best in explanation of crab ride's details. I watched different videos about CR, and it didn't helped, but after intricacies that he shared I really started feeling this position and now try to implement in my jiujitsu, thank you a lot
I'm watching this hoping he shows certain details a lot of people miss. I've been berimboloed countless times from my Professor Samuel Braga and knowing these details are essential for a clean finish and also to learn how to defend efficiently. Great job, and I'm jealous your in Norway brother🤙

Yeah some of these small details change so much! Yeah it has been a great trip here in Norway for the holidays. You should definitely visit!
Started playing and drilling this today - against good (great) crab and bolo players. Great advice towards the end in regards to various entries, being patient and not getting tunnel vision. Looking forward to more content on this theme.
Your content is sick, sir! Looking forward to Part 2.
Nice! Waiting for the next parts!
I really thought I wouldn’t like this channel, but it’s top notch. Thanks Jon

Hey Jon, great video..I been deeo diving into berimbolo...studying different people, styles. You trained with and made some bolo videos with different people, what style bolo do you like...I see Espen never places his non dlr leg across the belly with his shin. Some people keep the non dlr knee outside the hip, some people seem like the are all the way across connected hip to hip....what do you prefer, what makes Espen's bolo unique? Thanks for the content as always !!!!
very nice..thanks

When attack my opponent's left leg for the bolo, is it alright to use my left foot hook the ankle while my right foot is behind the knee space. I find greater control doing that..
Amazing technique! I know you do Gi stuff...do you have a no gi version that works with such great control?

Where can I get a pinstripe kimono??

No locdown in Haugesund!
What gi was espen wearing ?
Anyone know what Gi espen is wearing?
Can you reasonably be expected to do this with a bigger, heavier opponent?
