Mate this has quickly become an unmissable breakdown of the comps…. So good! Also, you’re not climbing with the big dogs… you are one of the big dogs matey!! First fully committed season and you have been on a podium and sail onto semi finals! It’s all up from here buddy!!!

@@TobyClimbing I had to come back to this video to say CONGRATS on Brixen, I was rooting for you so hard! You are such a cool and down to earth person and I'm glad to have chatted with you here before you blow up and become everyones favorite climber 😄

Nice to hear :))
I think your observations and take-aways are really spot on and mature. You were so so close to making finals and those margins can go either way really (look at the others who didn't make it) so really all you can do is keep putting yourself in that position and the results will come. Awesome to see you progressing this season, best of luck!

Thank you :) it’s crazy how small the margins are in these comps a very small change can bump you all the way up the order!
I enjoy following your journey. The videos are great. Especially the inside look at world cup climbing. I am looking forward to more as the season progresses.

Happy you enjoyed :))
You provide good insight into a climbers daily life during comp season. Nice to hear that making the videos provides benefit to your mental game as well ;) It's a pleasure watching them. All the best for Brixen and Innsbruck ✌️.

Thanks! I’ve been finding it really useful to put some things into perspective after the comp which I wouldn’t normally do.
I’m impressed how you’ve handled not getting through to the finals! This kind of mindset allows for future progress, no point being too hard on yourself especially considering how crazy hard these boulders looked! Honestly well done! As I’m a visual learner and I really like your style of climbing, these videos have helped me improve in my own climbing so thank you mate 🙏🏻
Congratulations on your win! Hard earned win indeed!
Thanks, great analysis of the issues in a comp
As I catch up on the season's comp streams, your videos add a lot of depth to the viewing experience, giving insight into your process and your journey makes watching the comps more real. Great work!
Pocket swap on MA1 was outrageous
I reckon you've got everyone's attention now. Subbed after watching your dub at Brixen... looking forward to following your journey.
Hi from México ❤you are amazing.. Really inspirational. More videos please
Thanks for sharing! its always interesting to know how the life of a comp climber is like, whether u have time to rest or is it laser focused and train train train. Especially since you are travelling around so many beautiful places with their own history, culture and attractions it would be a waste just to see it as if it was another competition and leave without any sort of immersion! Your video and Matt Grooms vlogs makes the entire comp scene more human and alive

It’s a tough schedule! A lot of training/ competing it can be hard to find the right balance. One of the best parts about these comps is getting to experience different cultures and go exploring in cool cities. Would definitely be a waste to not make the most of that! That’s exactly what the aim of the vids are, happy to hear it’s coming across like that.
Love these videos!! Such a rare and honest insight into the competitor's point of view. Keep sharing and good luck for the rest of the season!

A really interesting balance in your videos between the boulders and the insights, and great to see your progression to feel you belong in the semi-finals at least ;) Congratulations. By the way, in another 40 years or so, you'll have no problem getting up early.

Good luck in Innsbruck!!!
Why do World Cup qualifications have two groups?
@TobyClimbing
Жыл бұрын
I think I’ve mentioned this in a previous video in a little more detail - it’s basically because of field size. Competitors have to spend a long time in isolation which with 1 group would be too long. They split the field to make it manageable and the top 10 from each group go into a 20 person semi final. When the field is split there is no count back to qualifications in the event of tied scores

@@TobyClimbing Oh, thanks. It makes sense ig. I just had some bitter experience with division of participants into groups resulting in stronger ones not qualifying despite some much weaker qualifying, so this division made me concerned. Good luck in your training and competing!
