I bought 2 gel plates. One was a Gelli brand plate, and the other was a different brand that I can't remember. It was cheaper than the Gelli brand. I stored them for several years, and just got them back out. The "brand x" was so dry, the paper immediately stuck to it. I treated it with baby oil and then washed it with soap and water. It printed 2 pieces of paper and then the papers stuck to it again. I took out the Gelli brand and, it printed perfectly with no issues. I'm not representing the Gelli brand, but I will always buy that brand from here on out. You get what you pay for.

Hello Miss Sherry! Thanks for a GREAT video How To! I'm wondering about the gel plate storage tins you showed at the end, and then turned them on edge to store them! Does the tin fit them so snugly that they cannot sag and give way to gravity?!

Thanks Deb! I personally have not had any issues with my gel plates sagging when they are stored like a book in the tins. As with anything humidity/ no humidity, where you live in the country always affects things. I would recommend you try it and see how it works for you. Please let me know how it goes, I would be interested in hearing about your experience.

I store my large gell plate in plastic container that it came with plate. That I use for almost 4. 5 years. It close perfectly. Now I didn't use my plate for some time so I feal that is little bit dray. I find a video from favorite artist that make wonders with sumi inks and acrilic paint. She use ordinary baby oil. So I tray and it work like magic. Looks like I bouth my plate yesterday. Be creative, be artist and not horder of staff that you probably never use. Wiss you all the best lets creative juice 1floing.

I would add mineral oil or you can use what I use which is the Dina Wakley Gel Plate conditioner amzn.to/3XHNw16 (this is an Amazon affiliate link). As for the image transfers; I find that the high quality magazines work best for a "clearer transfer" (the expensive ones). However, I have gotten some great prints from those postcards you get in the mail (i.e. junk mail) kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYKelrt-cdHZk8o.html I will however, have plans on creating an image transfer video sometime this year. 😀

Hi Primrose - When you store in the tin, the top of the tin doesn't touch the top of your gel plate therefore, it eliminates getting bubbles or indentations on your plate.

When I have put them in the tins, they have not slid down.. there have been no issues from storing them on their side in the part of the country where I live. I do store my larger ones flat. I don't recall where manufacturers stated they had to be stored flat... vs. On their sides, however, I do know if anything is pushing on top or under them it will create an indention into the plate..

OK so you do keep and use those thin pieces of mylar again, and then put the plate in the clamshell. I saved them because I wasn’t sure. The clamshell is non-porous and seemed the same to me as the mylar sheet that came with the plate so I wasn’t sure. 👍

@angelwings7930 What I'm showing around that time mark is how mylar or acetate or anything touching your plate could cause air bubbles or indents over time on your plate. I personally use the baking pans, and the gel plate tins towards the end of the video to store my plates. A few air bubbles or tiny ones don't bother me, but it may bother other people. I personally do not recommend putting the mylar/acetate back on the gel plates.
