nice setup. great old radio. that is a outher way to feed a end fed antenna . the LC match. just a coil and a cap . makes 1 band but drops noise floor compared to UNUN feed. love how that old scout 555 sounds . both and RX. what I found half wave veritable. tad long on 10 meter pole. 17 meters 1/2 wave should fit. 15 did and still have room. once I get my wire cut the way I like it . I get them square beads with number on them like Callum did in his video. I had to be different with my DX commander expedition antenna. I used letters for the bands. TEN for 10. TWENTY for 20 meters. when I found them beads I got big set with numbers and letters. you can use LC match for 5/8 wave. the coil and cap will be different and antenna will be longer. 10 meters 5/8 wave not to bad. get a tad more gain. back in the old CB days 5/8 wave was king. that 11 meters. most are LC tuned. and some still made. and most tune 12/11/10 meters. usually 1 band into next band. I set 11 meters on mine and just ATU for 10/12 and it's not far off. like 2.6 SWR at worst. 29.6 MHZ . still got out. nice old days. 73's

Great to see the Scout in action! Last Saturday, I took my G90 out to the lot outside of my apartment near Independence Blvd @ Witchduck Rd feeding an MFJ-1622 apartment antenna. I mounted it in a vertical position on a wooden ladder next to my car; ran counterpoise around the front of the car. I was able to work several Florida stations during their QSO party, AO75NA & AO75CT in Spain and a POTA station in FL on 20m. Then went to 40m CW; made contact with KM1CC on Cape Cod for International Marconi Day. All in all, a successful day! I have to meet you sometime to talk your video production. 73, Steve KC4JGC

That right there brings back memories! I sold mine too soon! I watched your decimal point just before the last digit. If it goes off your battery is too low. Looks like the LiFePO4 voltage is high enough. I worked a lot of DX with mine mobile. I would ride to the Hardie’s and get a breakfast biscuit then to Buckroe Beach then home. Working DX all the way. Could not shut the engine off or that decimal point went off and audio would FM. Of course gas was cheaper, much cheaper then! 73, Don N4DJ

My main antenna is an endfed 135' wire. I put up an endfed 10meter wire (verticle) and have had SUCH good luck with it, I'm thinking about putting up an endfed 20 meter verticle wire in the hopes of having the same good luck and great contacts, You just convinced I should do this. More and more fiberglass extendo masts - ha.

Great job Walt, I have a similar end fed half wave from another UK antenna company. The LC (link coupled) matching is very efficient. It's basically an air wound coil in there with a coax stub capacitor hence it should be lightweight. Great antennas and that's a sweet little radio. 73

Our one is not the same we don't use an air wound coil, We use an iron powder core, wound & tapped.

Half wave vertical for 20m is my main portable antenna. Mine fits on a 10m pole though, just. Might be a difference in the unun. My 10m pole doesn't extend to quite the full 10m either.

Hi Walt, thanks for the fun video! Your radio seems to function perfectly after you resurrected it. I’m looking at that resident 20m EFHW from M1ECC for my field operation collection - 20m seems to be an enjoyable and active band to use. Please give us a heads up when you plan POTA, with freq, so that we can get into your log. Guess that you will be heading to HamVention shortly - driving or flying? Again thanks! AC3EA

hey Walt, as a follower and subscriber I will love if you make a video about a wire vertical for 80 meters (unless you have one already that Yutube doesn't show me no matter the multiple search's). If is on a DXCommander platform or pole even better. Ive been driving myself crazy for the past few days trying to find a feasible option for people who don't have an acre of backyard with no luck.

Somehow my EFHW for 40-10m did not work well for me. May be because of my compromised mounting due to space constraints at home. But I did not try a vertical orientation like this as the wire was 20m long. Was the one you used a single band end fed antenna? I reverted back to 40/10m fan dipole with a 1:1 current balun at feedpoint. Any chance of cutting the wire from 20m to 10m long and using it as 20m vertical like yours? Will I have to change the capacitor inside the 49:1 balun? 73 de Jon, VU2JO
