    Great video Luke! I have got to get that Topaz Denoise! I did see this a few months ago, but then it slipped my mind, you’ve reminded me how good it is and how worth it, it is! I too like to think about the vastness of space and the possibility of other life forms that are targeting their telescopes at us! As I commented earlier on Pats video, the sheer numbers of potential planets in (the sweet spot) are unimaginable!! There are probably thousands of me and you playing out all sorts of scenarios across the universe! Nice work mate, keep it up and clear skies👍

That's Also Why I Love Astrophotography, looking back at Time and Taking Your Own Pictures/Or even Observe through Eyepice rather Than Just Enjoying Images By Hubble. Thanks Luke. Another great video! I use your "Hubble for OSC" a lot! Love it. Works great. Questions if you don't mind. I might have missed it. Let's say I'm working in PI, at the point put where I have a starless image. Does Topaz recognize an xisf file, or do I have to export as something else? Or if I have finished master, what file would I need to save as to open and work in Topaz. Working on getting Topaz installed (because of your video) but my Win 10 won't update (error) to the latest version, and can't run their latest version. Their support is giving me some ideas to work with so that I can get it running. Curious what file format(s) I need to use once I get it going. Thanks & CS! Wayne

    Hey there Wayne! It's great to hear from you, I'm really glad that you've been enjoying the hubble osc video by the way! :-) Regarding filetypes, if in the middle of processing you wish to export to topaz for some work, then I always just use a 16 bit tiff file as topaz can't read xisf, this works great though 👍 If you are touching up older images that are already saved and complete then I've just been using them in whatever the native file was saved as, be it jpeg, png, you name it :-) topaz seems to work fantastic regardless! I hope that helps and that you get to the bottom of the issue with installation! Clear skies :-) P.S, I love the look of your observatories!

Haven’t tried Giga pixel AI yet, if I’m correct that programs purpose is to retain detail when cropping images? This is a game changer anyhow. The Gigapixel AI example was the most impressive actually. The Denoise creates a bit too soft images to my taste. I tend to use Photoshop camera raw filter on the shadow part of the image and have the result in a new layer, which I then tone down again using the opacity slider. That Gigapixel thing however, seems to do a denoise as well, but it leaves the details intact (or even improve them). I do think I'll keep in playing around in the 'free software' world though (yes I know Photoshop isn't free - looking into darktable and gimp a bit)

  • @lukomatico

    Hey Martin! - Gigapixel AI is my favourite tool of the three, but that said the compression of KZread has made the results of Denoise AI (and Gigapixel AI) look a bit less spectacular than they actually are! :-) I think the wall image was particularly challenging as it'd be hard to differentiate between signal and noise with such a low SNR image, it was an extreme test of the software but worthy of inclusion I thought! :-D I hear you RE: free software still being viable, it's certainly pretty good these days! that said, once I tried PixInsight there was no going back! the data we capture is so hard won that I always want to make the absolute best of it, and that inevitably means using the best software too (in my opinion) Thanks for watching mate! :-)

    I’ve been using Denoise for a while now. Howeve it has less effect on tiny galaxies but a lot from my experience nebulas . Also Denoise seems to square pixelate tiny stars even on Low or Clear models. I tried Gigapixel and enlarging didn’t pixelate the tiny stars and did remove noise and blur effectively. So I’m leaning now towards using just Gigapixel, enlarge the image after manually sharpening through PS/LR instead going to Denoise. Adding to this originally I Denoise both separately starless and stars only. Running Denoise on final output produced overall unintended artifacts. Separating them seems to be the best course. Any thoughts?

  • @lukomatico

    @lukomatico

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey there mate! - I found much the same really, so now my usual processing workflow involves splitting images up between stars and starless, only recombining at the last moment generally speaking - this gives me the chance to export the starless image for denoising, then bring it back into pixinsight to finish, thus avoiding artefacts 👌 I do find gigapixel ai works really well usually for most things, but sometimes for galaxies Sharpen Ai is a better bet I've noticed. Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and share your thoughts!! It's always interesting to hear! Clear skies my friend 👍👍
