You did the entire shoot with NO assistant(s). Just you and the model. This makes your information/instruction very valuable and transferable. You are very inspiring. Really like your presentation style. No time is wasted. Emphasis on the key point(s). With demonstrations to reinforce the points. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your support. As a photographer I had to learn to do a lot of different things to get a job done. Outdoor portrait photography would be so much easier with assistants. but that's not always an option. For me its about getting the shot, I dont care how its done. thanks for tuning in and you support really does mean a lot to me.
Very well explained. Great video
Subscribed. Good video. Straight to the point and exactly what I was looking for.

Really helpful video!
Thanks man ,
One of the best I've seen on explaining how this is done. Only thing missing is the camera settings. In other words, did you use manual mode to expose for ambient and how did you determine flash power? Otherwise, very concise and totally understandable explanation of how this works.

You asked the question 3 years ago and no reply to the person posting this video? That is not good.

This explains it better, I believe, on how to set your strobe to match the setting of your ambient light (used the camera mode to manual for ambient light reading, camera lens aperture at f4, lowest ISO possible, and flash speed synch. on the shutter). Then take an incident flash reading on the model using a hand-held light meter with light meter set at similar adjustment. Lower or higher the power of the flash to get the same reading as your camera light meter reading on manual mode. kzread.info/dash/bejne/laqVy7OLYpm_Z5c.html
One of the best videos on using flash! WELL DONE!

this was a great explanation of what i was looking for, thanks! ps- really dug the breakdown you used of you in the studio with the various lighting
I love it thanks Ed, you explain everything very clearly. would you be able to do some videos only about flash and how to operate them in manual please? :-/
this is one of the most easy-to-understand videos I've seen describing mixed-sourced lighting. Thank you!
Hello great video , I noticed that your soft box only had one defuser cover when it normally use two. Question is it better to use just one when outside in the bright sunlight ?
GREAT,VERY GOOD PIC, I LOVE IT.

You're the first KZreadr who wears a cap that hasn't annoyed the sh*t out of me. 😂👍 Subscription well earned! I think this is the first video I've come across that has clearly explained the balancing of ambient and flash. Every other vid just throws jargon at me which means very little.
Thank you of that BEST demonstration of ambient light and use flash to make picture look nice with all colours and expose at backround and subject, you do it and show it so clear at studio only using lights ,many other youtubers try explain it soooooo difficult way how to do it,you make it simple and really good way

excellent! how did you power your ELC?
Great video, thank you. I have a question about how you powered the strobe? This type of light is usually used indoors - are you able to plug it into an outdoor power pack? If so which one please - thanks, keep up the great work!
I like this video
hey ed, Thanks for the great tip. One question.. In a situation where a flash is not available, what would be your suggestions/ tips/ workarounds to take a good enough photo in the same background ? Thanks :)
Thank you
Love your video. I am contemplating wheather or not to buy a new battery for outdoor strobe shooting. I have a charger which my sister gave me and strobes also. It's alot to carry and heavy if you don't have an assistant.
better than any uni workshops!!!!

What a wonderful comment. Thank you so much and I'm happy you enjoyed this daylight portrait photography with flash.
Nice and simple informations! I only wanted to see if you could get the same result with a Speedlite specially the one where the sun is behind the subject at f7
Amazing video....
Just the facts man.
What metering mode you used in that kind of situation? I am using Nikon camera as well by the way.
Oh, Hey! I recognize this place! Lived a few years in Carson City. Grew up in the Eastern Sierra. Been to Tahoe plenty of times! I'm loving the look of this style! Bein in Los Angeles, I get way more cloudless, harsh sunlight than I care for. I finally dug out my Yuongnuo speedlight from my closet, and got a Neewer wireless trigger from Amazon a few weeks ago. Now I gotta' head to Venice Beach and try this out!

Perfect video!! Really good and interesting subject!! Sorry for any english misstype, once I'm from Brazil and I'm pushing me up just give a LIKE congrats!!
Great Job. What about the orientation (position) of the flash compared to the position of the sun ? Would you recommend something ?

Thanks so much John. Hope you learned a little something about balancing absent light with flash. Its one of my favorite things to do
Very informative, thanks! However, I’m missing information on the flash settings. In the last shot it’s obvious 100%, what where your settings in the other situations?
Great video! Very informative!!! Question, will this work if im only using on camera flash? Like the godox tt350?
@Miketz
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the flash isn't as powerful obviously and you won't get the dramatic look of a flash that is off camera. However, you can buy any of the Godox strobes (AD200, AD400 or AD600) and use your tt350 to trigger them and end up with the same results.
best tutorial , to the point. No shit talk. I love it. Good Job. Other youtubers need to learn from him.
