@@MrDEMarq Robotech or this SDF-1 toy? KitzConcept said they were working on a possible new SDF-1 toy but that's a long while off if it ever happens. Robotech is dead as far as reboots or sequels and the proposed live action movie seems very unlikely at this point.

I have this toy. It was a gift from one of my instructors at art school. He was one of the inkers for the Robotech comic book series in the 80’s. Love this toy. I had to repair one of the arms after it fell during a 7.4 earthquake up here in Alaska, but it currently stands proud along side my Exosguad hovertanks and various Veritech fighters.

It doesn't fire from cruiser mode again after that first time because when the space fold activates and then vanishes, the absence of the space fold system broke the power connections to the Main Gun, but Dr. Lang was able to reconnect the power to the main gun, but only when the ship is in attack mode.

i have two of the Robotech one, one was given to me by my grandparents (RIP) christmas in 1985, and means so much to me. i remember begging for Transformers in 1984, 1985, 1986 every year i asked for them. my grandparents had no clue what a Transformer was other then it being a robot that became something else, they found the SDF-1 at a store in upstate New York and bought it for me, i knew about Robotech and was shocked (i was 10) as the only toys i saw was the Matchbox figures for Robotech. it had some work done over the decades (had to replace the left shoulder with a spare i found) but it's complete. the 2nd one is 100% custom paint and other added parts to make it look like the Cartoon, the custom even altered the legs to make them spread out a little like in a few episodes. i also have the DYRL 1/3000 Macross, and the Macross Frontier Quarter ship. i REALLY wish they made a Macross Galaxy ship (just the ship not the "city" dome) sized to match these.

I got one of these, I think form a flea market in the late 80s. Don't have any of the bits that aren't built into it, but the core figure is intact.

It's kinda funny how the Yamato/Arcadia SDF-1 is packaged in an almost identical styrofoam tray, down to the number of bars over the top keeping it in place - even though it's in Cruiser mode rather than Storm Attack.

Great video. I have a Matchbox version with the arm ships from the KO that I'm currently listing on Ebay as I type this. I wanted to check a few things before typing out the description and this video was perfect. Maybe I should've replaced the shoulder cannon tips and the cannons in the legs with the ones from the KO so that I could've had all the launchers in it. I didn't even realize that the real one didn't have the triggers and only thought it was the ships that were changed. I've long since sold the KO after I got the original so nothing I can do now. Oh and I changed two of the shoulder cannons with the KO as well. That KO was very well made I must say. Having had both at the same time at one point, it was very difficult to tell the difference.

In the show the generators that charge the anti particle weapon was burned out on the first shot and they don't have the materials and equipment to repair it in space that's why it has to transform to connect to the secondary generator in order to use the weapon but doing so reduced their speed too that's why they had to transform back and forth.

Unfortunate that the Takatoku SDF-1 really starting to fall apart there but then again, it's been a few decades and the condition it is now is still amazing all things considered. Although my heart's definitely with the DYRL 1:3000 SDF-1 by Arcadia, this is definitely still in my radar and I'd be more than happy to get this if I can.

@@ScorchedEarthToys They sure did look to be in bad shape. The broken ratchet swivel gave me goosebumps. But I've seen some people fix it up with some glue, a flathead screw, and small nut. But I sure love these despite the rather liberal artistic license from the line art.

is the Blue different on the Japanese one, you pointed out the white is brighter on the Robotech one, but the blue looked different 9:33 or is that the lighting effect on the toy?

  • @ScorchedEarthToys

I do think there's a slight difference in the blue of the two toys but since they've aged for 30 years, I can't say whether or not they started the same color or not. I suspect Bandai tried to use the same blue as Takatoku and the slight differences in hue were just the variability of the manufacturing process of the era and/or the effect of time.

Got mine coming in the mail. Shapeways has plenty of items I can use to spruce this up in a display. 1/3000 scale F-14 Tomcats that I am going to have to paint up, as well as 1/1250 scale and others. I can have a bunch of these things buzzing around with near invisible wires holding them up in formation and have slightly bigger ones closer to the display screen to simulate perspective, i.e. craft that are further away and closer even though they are on the same shelf. There are also 1/3000 scale monsters I can have sitting on the Macross also. Slight yellowing on the bridge apparently but I can fix that. I would have gotten this baby sooner if I'd known they existed. I had a tiny 5-8 inch DYRL Macross which I lost with the move and five years later I stumble on this video and was mindblown that they make larger and larger versions of this ship. Someone even built a model that seems bigger than a person. Except for the pandemic, it's a great time to be alive if you collect things.

@L P I am 40. I've been around the world. I crushed it, got recognized for it. Was basically worshipped at work. I own a house, am retired, have a wife and two girls. Two cars. I buy whatever I want, did I mention I don't have to work again, EVER? I buy expensive shit, I buy nostalgic shit. Project all you wish, But according to statistics, more likely than not you'll die divorced, paying child support up the ass and might even commit suicide over it. When armageddon strikes I'll laugh over your grave if I have nothing better to do.
