thanks, never seen your review video of the TB-10, funny because I had it since 2009 and i LOVE this instrument. I used it live for years but also in 5 CD' s, it does sound like a double bass, and I have one of those too, I almost prefer the TB-10, just the playability, the warm sound, it' s a top instrument. A bit pricey but well worth it. PS : I applied the "dots" too... myself... :-) Ciao, from Milan, Italy

Steve, thank you for your in-depth review! You've covered up most anything, so that I am almost sure this is also suited for somebody looking for a more transportable upright bass. If only you could use a traditional bow!-but I suspect it is not possible, because the bow meets the edges of the body of the instrument. Correct? Otherwise, I'd prefer this instrument over an electric upright bass for its round, acoustic sound. And also, it's even more portable than e.g. the Czech Ease upright bass that Esperanza Spaulding uses. Or the full acoustic double basses with retractable neck. PS: you said you want to add a magnetic pick up, I suppose you mean, like, the Shadow fingerboard mounted piece, is that right?

Steve, Your tone is sublime, i have the B10 version (without the coolTube) but it doesn't sound anything like as good as yours (maybe the magic is in your fingers!) Wondering what strings and amp you are using?
@SteveTheBassGuy10 жыл бұрын
It is a great bass for gigging, I've had it for about a year and a half . Only difficult part is that the case is huge and awkward to move. But the bass itself is incredible.

Hi Steve, great demo! Yours is the only where this bass actually sings. What's your opinion about the acoustic volume of this instrument? Does it have nice lows to actually enjoy practicing without plugging it? or is it on the weak volume side? Thanks!

Pier Paolo Beatrizotti, The radius is similar to that of an upright bass, but this to me is a chance to try new techniques with it. So if you are looking for a flay board, this is not it. I had inlays put in, intonation on it was difficult with out it. So I would go that rout. as for strings and amp La Bella flats and PJB super Flight case is what I have been using. seems to work great. In fact one of my students is selling his DB and switching over to the TB10. The sound is killer.

Hey, Steve. Just found your video. Awesome sound and demo, thanks. Two quick questions: Does it take standard electric bass guitar strings and if so, have you found a preference for any particular brand for maximum, "mwah"? Also, can you bow one of these?
@SteveTheBassGuy

Yes standard extra long scale strings, I use la Bella flats on that one.

Thanks for a great review, Steve. Your video was very informative and helped convince me to buy one, which I did last week. The tone is just awesome, although I find I need a lot of strength in the left hand to play it. Does your Takamine have such high action? Is this normal? Do you know whether it could be adjusted at the bridge somewhere?
@SteveTheBassGuy
7 жыл бұрын
James Michel yes, it can be adjusted. When you take the strings off the saddle piece comes out of the bridge. A good luthier should be able to sand it down to adjust the height.

Hello, the Rob Allen is a great bass, however the Tak has way more of the DB vibe. You will need to find a luthier to put the side dots on for you. I am sure you will love the bass.

Action is really low, so it plays like a well set up upright. Slapping isn't something this bass does well, you can slap it like a DB.. But still not the best.
