Playing the Takamine TB-10 Fretless Acoustic Bass Guitar. Such a beautiful instrument, with a huge, rich, warm sound. It has the same 34" scale as my regular basses. Imagine this bass on YOUR music. www.fretlessmonster.com

Great depth of tone, man. First time I've ever heard a horizontal bass sound like an upright! Hope all is well, Tony.

A fretless bass either sounds like a harp of angels or just a series of farts and the skill involved in not making it sound like the latter is enormous...I have grown such an immense respect for you!!Keep up the good work buddy 🤠

Haha. Thanks for that, seriously. The comment made me laugh - but you are correct in how easily the Fretless can sound like farts!

I like to say "The greater an instrument's capacity for beauty, the more skill required to not make it sound absolutely horrible." Fretless bass is definitely on up that scale. As a guitar player who dabbles in bass and insists on owning a fretless among them... there's a reason I have no youtube videos of it.

It definitely requires more practice and patience than the fretted. Plus there are a lot of whole notes in rock which require pin point accuracy
That is one gorgeous bass and it sounds amazing in your hands..Takamine are fab instruments,,I own a few of their acoustic guitars..Such great value for money...Rock on sir..

just play a fretless electric bass. it's much more versatile, you can do way more things! Has the fretless sound but without being held down by its limitations: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoN9tNBuctzXaZc.html

Electric fretless will always be my go to, but I’d love to add real upright to my arsenal. The electric doesn’t have that depth of sound. The Takamine comes close and enables me to play upright type stuff. I’m just very “okay” on the upright. 🤩😂🙄

@@FretlessMonster My upright is a 1967 Kay. It's a fine piece, and I play at bars, taverns and deck parties here in Southern Maryland. And the local firehouse has bluegrass night every Friday so there's a nice mix of instruments. As to your sound, I have to say yours was among the best tone that I heard live back in the day. Especially when the Firm played hockey arenas. Saw you twice at the old Capital Centre in Largo, Maryland, and your tone was as clear and prominent as was John Entwhistle's and Geddy Lee's in the same airspace. The only other guys I recall with fretless in those days was the late Boz Burrell of Bad Company and the guy for Pete Frampton, Stanley Sheldon.
I love the way you play it. That is one of the coolest sounding basses I have heard. Very cool Tony...
