The actual meaning of Haath kaat dena means, the person who forgot his art by not doing that work again. Shahjahan paid those labourers so much money that thereafter those labours didn't worked for living and forgot their craftsmanship forever.

Whoever is reading this...i would like to point out a Fact that...in reality Shah Jahan never did cut the hands of the labourers and never did he kill the architect ....yes he had an agreement with the labourers that they won't be allowed to build any kind of monument after this (for which he gave monthly compensation to them). Also The architect and the same group of labourers were hired after this to do maintaining work for the red fort...

Actually mam, however Barbaric and inhuman it may sound. It happened, Shahjahan though was Awestruck by the Architecture of Taj Mahal, he was also jealous that why couldn't his.....u know..... can't build something so good. So after the Taj Mahal was constructed he cut one hand of every labourer, coz he did not want someone else to make something so Good. And when It comes to Mughals, I dont get it why people find it difficult to swallow the fact that they can do such things😅 Never heard about Nalanda huh???

Funny though cutting off hand is a myth not confirmed cause The story contrasts with available evidence and a vast settlement called Taj Ganj that still exists today. It was set up by Emperor Shah Jahan to house the thousands of masons, artisans and other workers who had assembled from the distant parts of his empire. The descendants of those workers still live there and practise the skills of their forefathers.The fact remains that after finishing the Taj, Shah Jahan’s workers built for him a whole new imperial city called Shahjahanabad in Delhi. It would have been well nigh impossible to maim thousands of expert artisan and find replacements to work on another equally grand project in such a short time.
