Taiwan - An Underrated Destination for Scooter Adventure

If you want a taste of scooter adventure, visit Taiwan. It is a travel destination where it is easy to rent a scooter and very tourist friendly. In this video, I share what else Taiwan has to offer.
Before my 25 countries overlanding adventure, I started off with flying into a foreign country and renting a motorcycle to explore. A fly-&-ride trip is an easier and more affordable alternative for anybody starting out.
Thank you Taiwan Tourism Bureau, Singapore for supporting this video. I'm really looking forward to riding around Taiwan when the border opens.

I went to Taiwan in 2018 for 6 months from Australia on a working holiday visa and had a good time living and travelling there mostly in Taipei and some weekend trips. Near the end of my stay I rented a scooter from another foreigner and did a solo trip clockwise around the island basically following the number 1 road and bike route which was signposted. It was actually my first time riding a motorcycle but it was quite a good place for an introduction as the roads are excellent and the traffic quite easy to understand. My trip took 14 days with 3 days of 2 nights in certain cities but I think I would rather take 3 weeks as I couldn't see everything. I also stayed in hostels/backpackers which was a good way to meet locals and other travellers. I want to go back to Taiwan again and maybe ride sometime faster than a scooter as the roads are amazing and smooth.

Did my first riding trip round taiwan with a rental scooter in 2018 starting from taoyuan in a anti clockwise direction and back to taoyuan with 10 days, i felt that it'll be so much comfortable to spend 3 weeks ideally so that can spend 1-2 days in every cities in taiwan, especially the landmarks such as Ahlishan and other mountains, where you can spend more time to immerse in the nature scenery as we dont get that often in Singapore. Once the border opens, definitely will go back there and spend more days doing the round island riding again:) Cheers, Victor

Hey Juvena, no probs Well I guess it’s depending on your objective/goal for the trip My target back then was to visit every cities and spend one day exploring that particular city, which is to reach before the nightfall, and explore the next day during sunrise and travel/reach to the next city by nightfall. 10days was not enough for me as I’ve gotta skip 2-3 cities and a few landmarks in Taiwan out of the city area. Oh and I’ve gotta mention that you gotta take into consideration which month of the year to travel to Taiwan As I went during end October till early November, and it was the period or autumn transiting to winter, where nightfall is around 4.45-5pm and travelling from one city to another will take around 2-4hrs, depending on the route as well, as the rental bike is white plate (equivalent to 2B bike in sg) could not go onto the expressway It could be done in 2 weeks if you plan it very well, as for my case, I wanna do it a impromptu one, with a rough idea where I wanna go based on my own research. Then the rest I’ll check out with the locals every single day where are the few nice place to visit in their cities as I mainly stay in all the backpacker inn or hostel, good for me to interact with a lot of locals as well as like minded travellers. Therefore if all goes well, I’m planning to have a 3-4 weeks of riding trip in Taiwan this year or next year to spend the new year countdown in Taiwan as it’s part of my bucket list😊 Cheers, victor
