Everyone bringing up GD and Bigbang…however I still think Taemin is the king. Michael Jackson would have literally wanted Shinee to perform/dance with him. GD is great however Taemin and Shinee have opened hella doors as well. Especially seeing how strong they still are after losing a member..going through hell in the military…and still going strong on their own and as a group is wild. Bigbang is different…Seungri ruined a lot for Bigbang…GD, Taeyang, and T.O.P have continued to give fans content however the only person who has really been active recently in the kpop scene is Taeyang. Taemin, Key, and Minho (I don’t necessarily keep up with Onew) have been hella active this year..filming tv show, releasing music, and just staying relevant as a group.

Gdragon is undisputed as the king of kpop by media and the general public, he's been in the music industry since he was 5, respect that. Taemin has his own titles: Ace of kpop, Prince of Kpop, MJ of kpop and his own lane. Also, you just made that up MJ never mentioned SHINee, he passed a year after SHINee debuted, they've only worked with his choreographers 😭

Taemin is generally considered to be one of, if not THE, best dancers in kpop. He's in most industry professionals' top 5 best dancers in Korean entertainment, easily. He has an extensive discography both as a soloist and as a member of two different kpop groups: SHINee and SuperM (this is a collaborative project made of members from several different groups). Trust me, y'all have only scratched the surface. Taemin is simultaneously in both of his two groups while ALSO being a soloist. His groups are not a past thing. Both groups are on hiatus for group activities until Taemin completes his military service early next month. After that, SHINee is slated to have a comeback in May of this year and Taemin will have another solo project in the second half of the year. SuperM will likely also have another project this year. Taemin was the first SHINee member to debut solo in 2014. He is considered by some to be the first SM soloist to debut while still being in an active group from the main SM company. (Technically Henry Lau debuted as a soloist from Super Junior-M the year before but as that group was marketed in China and was technically a subunit, some people consider his debut different. I won't get into that debate here.). Taemin, however, definitely was the first SM soloist still in an active group to have a full album and a full solo career. Taemin's successful solo career alongside SHINee's equally successful group career eventually became the SM blueprint for what to do when branching an idol off into a solo career while maintaining a group presence. Taemin's particular success as a soloist opened the doors for many of his juniors (and a few seniors) in SM and in the kpop industry at large. In the way that GD from BIGBANG became the rubric for k-rappers in a group and rap soloists, similarly Taemin became the idol's idol for dance and performance focused male soloists. He then defined himself in terms of complete artistic expression in a way few can replicate. The music critic Kim YoungDae had this to say about Taemin's solo career and presence: "He broke the stereotype image, the limit/frame for male singers in Korean pop and created a new world.”

Taemin embodies such wonderful darkness and sensuality. He's exactly my vibe which is why he's my full kpop Ult. His art usually has darker, creepy themes and impeccable visuals. He also often showcases duality in his MVs, lyrics, dance, or visuals. I'd say a good 90% of his MVs and performance videos have themes of duality or multiplicity and the splitting of the self/psyche. His lyrics also usually are about exploring his identity both as Taemin the Idol vs Taemin the man. In Advice, specifically, we get the stark contrasts in colors: black and white, red and green, blue and orange, red and black. Advice's lyrics explore his battle with public opinion about who he should be and directly calls out people who voice demands on his body and personhood. Lyrics like "You take me apart however you wish" and "Moving around the tip of your tongue." are direct callouts to those who trash talk him online or in the media and those who speak on him without any authority or understanding of who he truly is. "You don't get it, get it" and "Do you never get the keys to my lock" are saying "You don't understand me and you never will." "I destroy the torso you were chasing after" and "The more you try to trap me, I'll go off the rails so take a good look" can be seen as him defying those who trap him in a box of what they think he should look like and be like. The "torso" line specifically seems to call out those who commodify his body but also have demands on what he should do with it. For example, the way some people reacted to his tattoos. To note, this was the first MV where he fully revealed and showcased his side/hip tattoo.

This is what happens when you react to Taemin --- you likes go up! Same with his group, SHINee (as in "shiny" stars). Then there's SuperM of which he is also a member, but SHINee is home to Taemin, as he likes to tell us. So yes, he is a soloist, while also being in two active groups. He will be returning to Kpop on April 4th(?). SHINee has already told us they will be having their 15th Anniversary and a comeback once Taemin returns, probably near or on May 25th, as that is their anniversary date. Fun facts on Taemin... Taemin is afraid of all insects and bugs but in the mv for want he is holding a real snake. Taemin has been playing piano since the age of 11. He also signed with sm entertainment at that time. He was 14years old when he debuted. He was taught to sing by his members leader Onew and the late Jonghyun before seeking professional lessons later on. He is a self taught dancer though he sought professional lessons later on.

Taemin is my ULTIMATE bias. He is the emperor of kpop. The group he is in is called Shinee (he is still in it, they started in 2005. I recommend them. Taemin was 14 when they started). He is also in a supergroup called SuperM. His solo work is my favorite though. He is known as the idol of idols, because other idols both older and younger all look up to him and his artistry. He is also known for his usually androgynous looks, which he has said he uses makeup and fashion as part of his art, and that gender isn’t something he lets impact it. He has also said that he doesn’t want to deny looking feminine or a certain way in interviews because he never wants his fans to feel like there is something wrong with it. He’s seriously one of the best and purest people. He is an amazing performer, even known widely as Korea’s MJ. His vocals, dancing, and performance quality are on another level. Advice and Idea are actually parts 2 and 3 or a trilogy, which starts with the mv for Criminal. I also recommend Danger, Want, Famous, Move, Press Your Number, and the live performances of Soldier, Sexuality and Heaven.

I really like this group because they're one of very few groups in Kpop who prioritize their voices with what genres they like to dabble in for music.
