SHINee members are known for their amazing live vocals, Taemin debuted as a sub vocalist in a group with some of the best vocalists in kpop, and had no lines in their debut song due to going through puberty (voice changing) and not being skilled enough, but he worked VERY hard to be a great vocalist that he is now, while also being such an incredible dancer. people often overlook his vocals because his title tracks tend to focus more on dancing, but he actually really likes ballads and have a lot of them in his discography. his vocals are very emotive, perfect for such style

Something I want to remind you is that companys make their idols sound different in songs just to promote them better. One of the examples being Taeyong from NCT. His talking voice was much higher and SM wanted him to have a deeper voice so yeah. You can still hear sometimes in interviews or when he sings that his actual voice comes out. Not sure if they did the same with Taemin ir he himself wanted to sound that way. TY as well wanted to have rather the cool image even tho us czennies soon realised he is a cutie and now has the nickname "Bubu". Another example for female singers would be that alot of companys want them to have a higher voice or rather wanted as nowadays the deeper voices are really liked. As I said we never know if they actually want to do it or are forced. So please don't assume as it seems with Taemin that he just chooses such tones as most of his songs(title songs) are rather sensual. While TY is a rapper and Leader and Center of NCT so that might be why. I hope nobody interprets this comment in a bad way.
