One of the best speakers in the world. I can say this, because I have heard this system live! And this System is really well made. Amazing!

Now these speakers and associated equipment have it all together. I am tired of listening to speakers (and source material) at these shows, that pass themselves off as super fidelity, audiophile speakers, while they drive ice picks into one's ears. One can have detail, shimmering cymbals . . . and can still have a natural timbre without bleeding ears. Absolutely outstanding.

Stunning. I've heard lots and lots of high end speakers but these might be the best loudspeakers ever! A bold statement but possible!

It was recorded with Neumann KM 184 microphones and Sound Devices 702 recorder. The microphones were located closed to the loudspeakers to minimize the effect of phase shift and improve the left/right separation.

Now, that's what I call "reference"! This is a true dream system for me. I would have the money, but I can't really spend it freely on toys like this, even though I wish I could.

  • @thingsdemystified

disityp Can you really tell much difference between speakers like these and those that cost $2000? Or even $1000? All you need to do is find something excellent for the upper end, and make your own subwoofer. Bass is easy to tackle. If you're into DIY, there is lots of info available to help you build your own speakers. I can't think of anything that could convince me to spend this much on speakers. I'm perfectly happy with consumer-level B & W speakers.

  • @disityp

I believe that would be wrong question. Yes I probably could tell difference between such speakers, but that's not the point. Such speakers would be from the same price bracket, so the difference would be in the character of the sound, not quality/fidelity of it. I myself have several sets of speakers like this and they all play differently. BTW, have you ever heard the TADs? Don't, because if you do, you're gonna want them.

disityp You make me curious. This could be a dangerous path for me to take (it could suck my money away). Sometimes I wonder if some of those differences can be reproduced using processing, such as using a 1/3 or 1/6th octave equalizer. It would be neat to have a box where you can pick what speaker you want your system to mimic. My current belief is that most exotic systems can be reproduced using less expensive DIY methods. TI can't see why systems have to cost this much. What is the money going into? R & D? Maybe it's because these systems aren't mass-produced. I'd also be very curious about how the general public would react to listening to these speakers. I'd have them choose their favorite speaker and see what they end up favoring. I feel that most of these expensive systems are more marketing than performance.

Why use professionnal recording devices and don't place microphones on auditor's position? This is not at all the sound we heard if we have been in the room. Nobody have a head 4 meters large with ears pointed front of speakers... And what about the treatments used during the recording? Even more critical, some of these fu... Hifi Videos have just cd audio layer copy-paste on the Video... Easy to do with any basic video software. You can move around the speakers to show how the sound change on different position.

The reason is that I do not have omnidirectional microphones and artificial-head to make binaural recordings. You can listen the original recording and compare it to this one to understand that this is not a copy-paste...

De donde sacas eso? Mas natural no suena algo. El jazz rara vez esta grabado naturalmente, esta hecho en la mesa de mezcla. Si pones clasica, la diferencia entre el concert hall y TAD es virtualmente invisible.

You can order parts from TAD as they make studio woofers. Make them yourself and they will be a fraction of the price, but... yeah, Japanese labour is expensive, just like European labour. So, it gets pricey. Since there is so few sold, all the licencing, shipping, real state, and what not adds to the cost, plus distribution with double handling of speakers that regularly weight more than your wife ... So... it's 80'000 speakers, but about 6K in parts. The rest is logistics and overhead expenses. Worth? Well... every time I play music my heart melts. They last a life time... better than buying a car, for sure.

Ouch. My ears hurt. I'll keep my Klipsch Bell's for jazz. Very few speakers can touch a tube upstream gear and horn speakers. Not ear bleeding loud but toned down just so and they will run with the best of them. Todays modern rock, pop etc not so good. The music studios have bricked everything and the simblince is just a killer on horns. I'll give these speakers a fair shake and listen to them but I won't hold my breath.
