TACX NEO Bike Smart: Early Impressions // First Ride

Спорт

The Tacx Neo Bike Smart - As previewed last year, now announced and almost seen here in final production form at Tacx HQ just days before Eurobike 2018. Here's my brief overview and feature comparison with another recently reviewed Smart Bike. Stay tuned for a full Lama Lab Test on the Neo Bike Smart in the very near future. I'm very interested to know how this unit performs when put in high-demand situations.

    Once a company nails one of these virtual bikes at a reasonable price point they will be the future of indoor training. Essentially maintenance free with out putting hours of strain, sweat and wear and tare on your day to day roadie/ racer. This looks promising tho!

    So if I understood correctly you can program your own gear ratios? I ride a 50/34 and an 11/32 on the back. On the video I saw the bike was 11/25.

    I know what you mean , Iv undecided on to go all out on the neo bike or just buy a cheap spin bike just so I can turn the legs every day , due to work and family I can only ride once a week and it’s just not enough, are their any decent spin bikes ?

    What Tacx didn't think about is on the aerobars to be installed and train for TT or triatlon. But, looks nice smart bike!

    Thanks for the video. Do you have a video where you maxima 5 min fähsrt without (!) to speak? Only to hear the sound or the sounds of the brake unit? My bike makes irregular knocking noises. Unit replaced... and it continues to knock 😞

    It is possible but would require very clever design. I think sliding in fully assembled rest of the bike from the side into the freehub body would be the best idea.The Neo frame would need to by resigned completely to allow for firm and stable connection with the rest of the bike. As we know now this is not the case.

  • @torma99

    Looks promising, but those fans are ridiculous. Tons of features, some of them aren't here yet in the apps (braking/turning). Heavy pricetag, but if they ironed out the flaws of the Neo and it will be reliable enough, I could be easily persuaded to buy one (when my Neo's warranty runs out in a couple of years.)

    Good observation. The unit can run powered or unpowered (like the Neo). I believe the front cable to the head unit will be neater. We'll check with Tacx in the morning to see exactly what their plans are.

    I think it'll partly depend on how serious you are about training - with the neo you're using your actual bike, so the transition back to the road is no different. I imagine it's going to be tricky (and costly) to match this to your road bike spec-for-spec.

  • @dangurtler7177

    @dangurtler7177

    Handle bars, bar tape and seat come to mind. You can always just swap pedals. It all adds to the cost, but you could go with aluminum bars with a similar shape to what you use. The seat on the other hand is more critical, at least for me.

    Awesome! There is NO dumb tilting like the Neo line of smart trainers where the harder you pedal the more the rocking from left to right, the more unstable the bike, the more transfer of your pedaling power to the rocking, and the less transfer of power to the wheel (i.e. loss of power.) Riding on this Neo bike will feel like riding on solid ground; riding on a Neo smart trainer will feel like riding on jello.

  • @gplama

    @gplama

    4 жыл бұрын

    The reality is when you're riding a bike outside, there is movement. The flex on the Neo trainer isn't jello unless you're very unstable on a bike. Power transfer isn't about being perfect - it's about being realistic. Unfortunately the Neo bike is unrealistic in this aspect. It's a brick fence with a saddle and handlebars. Nobody rides brick fences.
