Tactics Ogre SNES and PSP Palace of the Dead was Miserable, let's Reminisce!

Ойындар

Please let it end. 🥺🦆
Ok, maybe it's a little dramatic, Hawk Archers and Clerics can...ehm.. occasionally be good enough. Assuming they didn't get bent by debuffs.
Original POTD was absolutely miserable. But it is really fun to chater about.

Corrections/Notes: -I forgot to bring to the Retissue Loop. You can just make an infinite speed unit as soon as the POTD unlocks. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ga2IqpOIj9KdhbQ.htmlsi=Tj0F5AOzeqSRqUlr -Oz's dress was one of the options, but Alluring was the sister item I had in mind there, which I think drops from Ozma on NG+? I forget, it's been a minute, and a lot of those drops were weird. Either way, Proofs in every slot are ideal there. Shields can cover anything you can't get, since most common debuffs have a shield upgrade immunity. -Starion Does exorcise on kill, but it also basically just bleaches all undead from the map. Pretty neat. -Longbow/Crossbow meta runs into brick walls vs any hyper armor unit. -Dragon Resonance... just.... God...😢 -Before someone says to use the Recruit skills to just power rank free Parry Ranks.....😂😂😂😂....They only join with some of their spells and the first 4 skills on their list. Everything else is deleted. The only guy you can harvest for Parry levels.... is Hamilton. Let that level of fucked sink in. Just give it a second. -Oh. You can't use your shortcuts on the PSP version while Roderick is alive. So never use Bodysnatch, because you're doing that mess manually.

I only have experience with the PSP's version of Tactics Ogre, and when I came across PotD, I felt genuinely intrigued. How long and samey it is in its design feels like a deliberate attempt to sway the players away from going in. My first run of it happened in CODA 2, so I immediately went and saved Warren. My reruns with my main team used Cressida, Arycelle, Sara, Vartan Canopus, Catiua, a generic archer, valkyrie and cleric, and Olivia as another cleric. After finding the complete loot table for the place in a google sheet, I went through the whole palace five times, getting specific materials for crafting, weapons and cursed items. It genuinely felt like I was going on a treasure hunt, like a Spanish gincana. Because my main team was specifically tailored to have each unit do one specific thing, it was easy for them to be turned into an AI team, which I turned off every now and then in case I glanced over at my game and three of my dudes were about to perish (which is a great segue to give you this tip: you can set everyone to AI, do whatever action with the current character you selected, interrupt the next turn and then put that unit to AI. That way, you won't lose a turn. Another tip: you can check your entire roster of characters in the middle of a fight too! Wait for your turn or interrupt, exit the interrupt menu, press START-or whatever the equivalent of that button is on your device-and scroll down a few options. I bring this up because only your Rudlum had draconics but he wasn't deployed in the current map. That way, you can check it out immediately and make your point at that moment!) This is a game I treasure, I truly love. Only dedicated 350 hours to my main file so far, and I haven't 100%'d it yet. I'm willing to. Up next, challenge runs ~>~... Thank you for this video! It's always great to see one of my favourite games be so passionately rambled about in my feed even when I'm not that tuned in with it right now 😊❤ (Final Fantasy Type-0 is currently taking up my mind...)

Just finished watching. Thanks for posting, I've wanted to know more on the differences between the releases - beforehand I could kinda see myself playing the snes/saturn version but overall didn't want to, and had no desire whatsoever to play psp. I like the way Teleport works in original and Knight of Lodis way more than reborn honestly lol. Sure, it was a little cheesy in KoL since you could teleport swordmaster to boss and have them atropos them with a snapdragon to death to insta win, but still, reborn's teleport requiring it to adhere to movement restrictions is just depression

  • @CoffeePotato

I was very tempted to include KoL in this list, but that's going to be a separate KoL/OV video. That wasn't a Reborn change. Teleport had that restriction in PSP, and in SNES, flight/teleport didn't save you from pit drops. It's always one step behind what's remembered 😆

But you have to come here also endless times if you want at least one maxed out relic of each kind…you need plenty of them. But picking up green cards all the time can boost your power besides the charms you receive! 👍🏻

I could have sworn I'd lost units to friendly fire summons before, but that does sound like something Classic would randomly do 🤔. Would disagree on the speed, though. Kind of want to test this, actually, because personally I think Reborn would be the fastest. Not counting shortcuts, generally you get more power spikes in Reborn, so big sweeps tend to happen pretty quick, while generally slow game speed and waiting for revives could slow down the Classic route. Ah screw it, I'ma test it next week probably.

You could learn a lot of things in PSP, but don't forget how many asterisks there were to even use a lot of them. Without the dedicated slots for damage, augs, or Spellstrike, they were often incapable of going through defense or hitting at all (See every AI caster in this video). Many were so incredibly niche that you'd never realistically even remember you had the in the case that you'd want to use them (like remembering to use Water to hobble someone).

Imagine getting a 100+ floors dungeon wrong not once, not twice but three times There is no reason for Reborn to not give you the guides each 25 floors instead of after the Nybeth fight. Let's say I go to the palace in ch4 to get the summons and make my life easier with the apocrypha quests and the final story dungeon. Why do I have to do the first quarter of the dungeon again? I already beat it, I've already proven I can do it, there is no reason for me to being forced (key word: forced) to do it again with an even stronger team, it's not a challenge, it's a waste of time. Checkpoints in games exist for a reason. Even Reborn designed the whole place pretty terribly

And... Why am I forced to waste times on floors I have already beaten? Why couldn't the guides be crafted as soon as I reach the next section of the palace? It's just a massive waste of time since the first 20 or so floors give you nothing interesting. Like, imagine if in a game like Bloodborne you were forced to do every floor of a chalice everytime you exit to replenish your items or test the gems you've gotten from bosses. Wouldn't that be a massive pain? That's what POTD is Basically POTD lacks Quality of Life even in Reborn. They tried to make it better, it is the best it has ever been, but it's still not very good

Did you make it past floor 20? It's basically a never ending free loot pinata of most of the best stuff in the game. 1-20 is generally crafting materials or unusual for Chapter 4 weapons, followed by nearly every crafting book in the game, 30-115 are typically 1-5 relics per floor, with redundant drops for everything this time around. The Neutral Level 50s can be cheesed to clear maps for you, and then poisoned for sometimes 3 or more interesting drops each. One of the first ones has a decent chance to drop a Brimstone, even. It's where you get all of the movement items outside of the Sniper set, and probably a third of the spells. It's definitely still long, but this time around fights are faster, and after that first run, you can run custom sections far smoother than before. You used to be forced to run it twice for access to the shortcuts for technical reasons. You had the books, you just couldn't use them until the cutscene flags were gone.
