    Great advice. I usually focus on spellcasters over clerics because they will usually do ease early in the match and I want to mitigate damage. A team of archers and vartans, (2-3 humans or Hackman depending on terrain) is what I use to go spellcasting hunting. With eagle eye and a silence bow, you can really limit the enemies effectiveness. A Frontline knight with a silence crossbow is great at silencing enemy knights, especially if they had eagle eye put on them from a friendly unit.

    I rarely recruit unless I see something I really want from the start (hoplites recently, but most often, it's been dragons) because, man, I have no luck with that skill. If I have the MP to recruit, I usually also have the MP for a finisher on a frontline unit, so I'll usually choose to use the 40 MP on a finisher to finish them rather than trying to recruit and wasting 7 turns. Because that's how many attempts it usually takes, even with hovering around the 30% hit rate. I'll definitely need to go and do this more for archers in particular though because I only have one actual archer and the rest are other units with bows in the side arm. I usually brute force targets down with Breached (or I poison them, as of recently), so trying to remember all the elemental weaknesses never felt necessary. I'll need to go try that at some point though because at least for finishers, it *does* seem noticeable now that I start getting multiple elemental ones on units.

    I find that you have to make decisions before going into a fight on whether to recruit or no, and it will very much determine who or what you bring into the fight. For example, I recruited an Octopus, hoplite and juggernaut all in one fight on the Brigantys West Curtain Wall in CH3. It was difficult and took a long time, and meant that I was taking in a beast tamer and two wizards. I lucked out and got an octopus early but the lizardmen took a long time. I had half my squad keeping Orgeau occupied on the castle walls while the other half of the squad kept the lizard people contained so that my wizards could try to recruit them. If I haven't been trying to recruit I would have brought a different squad and the fight would have been over in half the time. But hey, I got my octopus, juggernaut and hoplite finally!

    For a monster unit, your best bet is loyalty cards and letting them be ranged support for a while. Usually weapon skills are the fastest loyalty gain, but they don't get those. Typically 1-2 Loyalty cards will be all you need.

    I can't see a gryphon named Rybalt without hearing James Scott Spaid say "Reeve Rybalt Reevesbane shuffled seashells against his favorite opponent, Iony." (I named my cockatrice Rybalt. Though, like you, one of my off-element gryphons is fire since ice enemies are where I don't use my air gryphons. Weirdly, that dark gryphon from Andoras came with higher stats than a lot of gryphons, so I'm thinking of converting her into a zombie gryphon.)

  • @CoffeePotato

    I felt like the gryphon had the better murder stare. The cockatrices are deadly, but their expression seems to imply they didn't mean it. The gryphs in the other hand have that look of snug satisfaction usually reserved for when you see a video of a hawk ripping off the head of a small animal for lunch.

    when you said kinds of archers, are you referring to the different element types?

  • @CoffeePotato

    @CoffeePotato

    Жыл бұрын

    Yup. Most factions will be relatively type themed, so by varying up your ranged units (I say archers for convenience and firing range, but this applies to all ranged units to an extent), you can guarantee that they will continue to be a direct threat. Often times this allows for bullying certain elements before they can even get involved, or, more ideally, pull away healing units to be isolated and taken care of behind their own lines. If they move far enough away from support, a couple of archers with Tremendous Shot can be enough to keep them permanently stuck in the back due to low movement range.

  • @benedict6962
    @benedict6962 Жыл бұрын

    Recruiting new units that you switch into archer also generally solves the issue with archer stat growths. Can't worry about awful stat growths if the AIs force a decent baseline of stats!

  • @CoffeePotato

    @CoffeePotato

    Жыл бұрын

    They're as random as anyone (I just got a Berserker with 20 highre Int than his physical stats), but easier to have ready units on hand. Growths aren't usually the issue, but natural stats. Those can vary up to 20 or so, while growths skew maybe 10 in extreme cases, and even then won't be what makes the difference in some cases. Good ranged unit use isn't stats as much as firing on various weaknesses, which they get a 2.5x bonus against, in the simplest terms.

    Knights aren't bad in boss fights with phalanx to tank. otherwise I find that you can just turtle away in phidoc, not the most ingenious tactic, but divide and conquer turtling works. also stack ALL statuses on the non boss units: petrified, stun, poison, charm... the less you have actively fighting you, the easier it is to heal from oz and ozma and survive a turn. it's also possible to drain mp from oz and ozma, but it's not great. can work, but meh. fear and weaken everything that's not petrified, stunned, silenced or charmed.

  • @gmoney5772

    I run 3 ninja’s (denam dual wield), one with a blowgun/bow and one w a crossbow/katana. Those hits with the bow/blowgun/cross, etc can do stun, poison and/or silence (blowgun can petrify as well). So every time ninja hits, you are getting multi effects. Have them and your TK’s touch everything first, spread debuffs across the map and have your WK’s/damage dealers mop the pieces. I can’t use wizards/warlocks, they are slow and miss too much…

    @@gmoney5772 ok. i can explore ninjas. so silence bow + benumb on everyone? or better to use charm/petrify blowgun + benumb? which units to replace, the 2 wizards? i can convert arycelle and sara to ninjas. if blowguns do i need to level up their weapon skill for the finishers 1st? i pretty much use the wizards in the same role you described with the ninja. i typically have a 50-70% success rate. should i bring an archer (eagle eye) to help the ninja success rate?

    @@kevlap017 i dont understand divide and conquer turtling. can you explain further? if i swap in a couple of knights, who gets replaced class wise? i already do what you said in terms of debuffing everyone as that's my general boss fight tactic. just want to know if there' a more efficient way to do it like with another class/equip. like here's how my units typically operate: BT: lob weaken item at boss RF/V: quicken TKs>weaken item anyone not debuffed in range>attack with silence bow on a caster WK: go in front, weaken item anyone not debuffed in range SM: fortify party at start of 2nd turn>aoe heal chip dmg>weaken item anyone not debuffed in range TK: fearful impact everyone Wiz: charm everyone

    @@TheRobversion1 by divide and conquer turtling i meant staying near the starting positions but splitting your army to avoid the devastating aoe hitting more people than necessary and you could probably reclass denam into a knight for that fight. you dont need a knight to succeed, it's just safe to use because it's so survivable. Give it healing items and even without a lobber it makes a decent tank healer, simply because it's unlikely they will need to use it on themselves so they can patch up hard hitting units like that terror knight.

  • @CoffeePotato

    That's the funny thing about this game. The more you try to play it traditionally, the more difficult it seems. Like some sorta Chinese finger trap situation. Debuffs have 3 things that determine their odds. A- Mind. B- Spellstrike. If you're running concentration, that's a 30% boost, and you can never go under 30% unless the target is immune. C- Resistances and Immunities. Resist and Immune skills exist, they do exactly what they say. Weapons and armor don't matter as much as how they're used. You should never be taking a fair fight. The difference between the best and worst weapon in a category is often 100 or less attack wise. Every single finisher in the game adds at least that much to an attack when used. Elements confer a 30% advantage to attack and defense. Debuffs can completely flip the script even harder, with Fear reducing defense by 15% Breach multiplying damage by 50%, Strengthen boosting by another 20%, Averse and Instill being more situational, but point being debuffs multiply like crazy. Short version: use Debuffs. You have items in the store and heavy units to inflict them for free. Learn to slot on debuffs and elements, and you'll forget weapons and levels exist half the time.

    That's always been part of the OST, Dark Souls does that for snowy areas too. It's going for a sort of Gregorian chanters stuck in a blizzard vibe. This theme in particular has always been more about being haunting than catchy, it only plays in places people have explicitly said suck all the things to be in. It was beeps and boops held down in the original vversions: fi.zophar.net/soundfiles/playstation-psf/tactics-ogre/23%20Song%20of%20Tundra.mp3
