Many years ago I would make things we called Spreaders for snaking logs out of the forest. I would use a tapered I.D. steel sleeve and 19mm Wire Cable and fray the end of the wire and pull it down into the sleeve. Then pour a resin into the frayed end and when it hardened it would never come out. I like what you made and might try to make me one. Thanks and super job.
I inherited a baton from my great-grandfather, consisting of two springs that are welded together, can be extended telescopically and are fixed in a 20 mm cartridge. Great piece and already easily 50 to 60 years old...

I never saw a practical use for these (legal issues aside) until I met an old biker (lets call him Jeff). He had tassels on his bar end maybe 10-12" long. One of the other riders happened to have one too many and not only singled out Jeff but in particular his leather tassels. One thing led to another and it tuned out one of the leather tassels had a 1/4" piece of cable running the last 8" or so and he had a quick release that had it in his hands in seconds. It was quite the formidable weapon.
