@@truth-uncensored2426 Argentina has actually a pretty decent defense, to the point that Brasil (a team that is stacked with talented offensive players) has not been able to score a single goal in the last three matches. Argentina can close up very well, when they want. The usual have more trouble attacking. Today's game is very much a typical bad day for Argentina. We've seen similar games in the last two years.

Argentina got to Cup unbeaten by using the same mid 3. Paredes, Lo Celso and De Paul. Lo Celso is injured. Paredes just recovered from injury and is still not in form. And De Paul's form dropped ever since he was moved to Aleti. Paredes was already dropped from the starting XI. He did not even play today even though Enzo F and Palacios came from the bench. And De Paul is begging to be benched. It's no wonder the team is underperforming. MacAllister and Enzo Ferndandez are clearly in better form, but they played very little with the NT. Still, as it stands, they need to start.

De Paul is indespensable. He became better as the game progressed. Yes still way off. ARG needs run in behinds for space to open up for Messi. It just has to happen. Also the problem is the full backs are doing jack shit. ARG will have to play dirty and slow and boring and have to be defensively solid. They will not be playing pretty football thats for sure. They will have to involve Messi more in the build up and Julian Alvarez and Lautaro will have to finish.

Actually in the second half just before messi's goal scaloni made an offensive substituttion by replacing guido rodriguez with enzo fernandez, making the team move forward and the defensive backline of argentina stood much higher and they had a better ball circulation with a more attacking position. When enzo entered the match changed completely. If u can id like u to make a second parto of this video analyzing the match from the point where enzo comes in forward, its really interesting.

The thing I loved the most was the defensive system of Argentina, I think that is thier strength, that's how they won Copa América

I think Mexico very defended well. I believe they manage to restrict Argentina to single 1 shot until to 64th min, before a single lapse in concentration lead to Messi scoring the opener. After the Messi magic moment, it became harder for Mexico, who had to be more offensive. In the last 2 games, Argentina's midfield look lethargic. This may become an issue against France. I hope we csn see some young blood to freshen things up.

Argentina is struggling to create cchances bcuz Lo Celso, the mid field playmaker with excellent connection with Messi, got injured 5 days before their opening game and so was taken out of the team. They haven’t really made any adjustments or found a good replacement for him.

I think Mexico started taking it easy after around 60th min and that's when Arg started taking control. Messi dropped deep and started to make crucial passes and help in build up which he wasn't doing in 1st half.

Messi at 35 is controlling the game like he is 25 🤯

Third time? In 2014 they got to the final. And Argentina arrived to this Cup American champions, beating the Euro Champions 3 nil in the finalissima and 36 games unbeaten. Problem is that half the starting team arrived just recovered from injury and in poor form. Paredes, De Paul and Lo Celso was the starting mid. Lo Celso is injured, Paredes just recovered from injury and De Paul was great until he transferred to Aleti (and got divorced). That is why the team is not functioning as it did. Scaloni already subbed Paredes. And De Paul is begging to be benched. Luckily Enzo Fernandez is in amazing form and MacAllister is a good young player. They can play. It is likely though that De Paul will not be dropped no matter how bad he plays. He has been playing elite level for two years in the NT. Scaloni is likely going to wait him out, until Argentina gets kicked out of the cup.

Messi was excellent at drifting into the space between the lines, was so happy when Di Maria found him in space for amazing strike with precision and power to beat Ochoa. Enzo Fernández then secured the win with the goal of his life, dropping his shoulder to feint to create a moment of space, beautiful curling shot for one of the best goals of the tournament so far. This was a tight first half with Argentina struggling to create chances against the Mexican mid block. I feel the Argentina team was feeling the pressure this game and the concern of being exposed on counter attacks lead to more slower possessions to control the tempo but this allowed more narrow compact mid block to compress the half space and double team Messi which forced him to drop even deeper to receive the ball. Hopefully they can be confident and more assertive in the Poland game, maybe LW Papu Gomez, Paredes and Enzo Fernández will start next game in the midfield and Lautaro will get his first goal of the tournament

I have been watching argentina for a long time, i think what happened both in the games against Saudi Arabia and Mexico is they tried to crowd the midfiled and keep Argentina's midfilders always marked and even Messi. For the past 2 yrs Argentina always played through the middle to combine with closely placed players like Messi, DePaul, papugomez, locelso all of them close to each other in the midfiled and half spaces to combine and progress the play. Their width was mainly provided by fullbacks and not really wingers, unless there was dimaria who maintained the width. The problem with argentina is they don't have top quality wingers who want to stay wide and beat players one on one and create chances. Only di Maria is the only player who does that on the wing but he is now 35 yrs old and can't do it at a high intensity as a younger player would although he is still very good. When they are out wide argentina has only one option which is to hope their fullbacks can make some good crosses and this plan doesn't always work. Scalonis tactics have been mainly focused on combinations through the middle because argentina don't have any world class wingers rightnow, so if a team like Saudi or Mexico decided to pack the midfiled and central areas by tightly marking their midfilders and inside forwards then out wide they aren't very much effective.

I think Tata should be scored a 3 instead of a 5. I belong to the school of thought that if you do not complement a defensive setup with effective counterattacks. It's just futile. The problem with Scaloni's side is they have not found that Lo Celso replacement. One would naturally think that Paredes and De Paul would fill the position just fine but that doesn't seem to be the case. Enzo Fernandez seems to be the key, I hope Scaloni sees this and he should begin considering starting J.Alvares on the left wing or Dybala. Papu Gomez & Macallister don't look fit for the role. Scaloni gets a 4.

Enzo Fernández’s entry brought steel and structure to the Argentine midfield and, to me, he could act as a second playmaker.

Mexico didn't create anything the first 66 minutes. They depended in getting rid of the ball to Chucky or Vega and left them to do what they could. Such a sad game to see, we usually fight but today our manager gave the game away.

I support Argentina but i still think they can move the ball faster plus they can press more when they lose the ball...and they should create more chances🇦🇷❤️💯

Mexico played a back 5 which never works, had edson alvarez on the bench, put Herrera and guardado both 35yo in the starting 11 and didnt call up players like, lainez, santi gimenez, and chicharito. Mexico was always gonna lose regardless of who was playing.

argentina lucky win in this match, clueless, bad passing, and lazy press, if they keep play like this, they will get kick out early in knockout stage

Even though saudi arabia lost they still played some of the best football I've seen this WC and I don't see Mexico beating them because they look completely toothless upfront.

I think if Argentina attacks the way they did against Saudi Arabia while keeping their defence intact, they can score more. If they just can counter offside trap. Messi must drop deep, otherwise the build up would be poor.

Well if Mexico wins 2 - 0, Mexico passes on with Poland on the lead, and Argentina would be out. So basically everyone in this group has to win if they want to keep playing. Every team that looses is basically out, the only one that can go on with draws are Poland and Saudi Arabia 1 - 1 in their respective games.

Mexico has good players but their tactics are awful and they need a decent striker.

Having 2 goals against out of 2 attempts doesn't mean defense is bad. If you think about it, it's quite the contrary. Compare how many shots SA got against Poland (16) and then Argentina (3). And if you look at the 2 SA goals, they were brilliant and technically difficult. Finally, look at the defense stats for Argentina in the last 36 matches and you will find very good numbers.
