David Alaba had an off day and his team paid for it. 4. Despite the same system, Guardiola tweaked De Bruyne's position, as I've seen him operating on the left flank for the first time. If this were Atletico they would never concede the first and the second goal. Such a poor pressing from Vinicus and poor marking by defenders. You're a Real Madrid player and it's UCL semi-final. You can't be that inattentive. I think Pep should've bring Ake because he had Inverted Zinchenckho as a midfielder. Fernandinho in inverted position will be very poor against Vinicius and Benzema, everybody knew it when Fernandinho came in. If Dias was in the right side and Laporte in the middle and Ake on the left, City wouldn't concede these goals. By the way it's the same thing that Pep tried when Stones were in the field. On the other hand, Mahrez and Foden were brilliant but they should've passed the ball instead of taking shot.

I think Tottenham played Man City the best this season. They dissected City's press & controlled them w/o much of the ball. Ancelotti needs to try a back 3 this weekend if they want to control MC next week the way Conte's boys did earlier this year. Plus with Rüdiger (& likely Mbappe) coming in the summer, the 3-4-2-1 would be ideal IMO with Vini & Benz behind Mbappe

The Vinicius goal was an error from Dias. He pressed very high and left Fernandinho exposed. They were able to contain him well except for that moment.

City looked good as a team. Real was more about vini Benz and modric individual skill

City's careless mistakes and occasional napping at the back caused them big time. They need to rectify that. Such small details cost teams alot.This is champions league...you cannot underestimate any opponent.There is always a danger of being vulnerable at any moment. City need to be very alert come the 2nd leg and avoid conceding goals. We saw this pattern in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool at the etihad, and its a habit that has been forming recently.

Basically City didn't win, draw at best. Real are extremely dangerous on themselves and given that the second leg is at Bernabeu, it will be extremely difficult for City to manage to defeat Real. We have seen what they have done to Chelsea. Moreover, if Kyle doesnt make it, then it will be a highway at the left side given the crazy speed vinicius possesses. Overall, i think it was a big miss for city that they couldnt make the gap bigger.

With City, what's funny is that they do well in away games than at home, we lost 5 games this season and 3 of them were at home. Yes it won't be a walk in the park at Bernabeu but keep in mind in the first leg, 2 key fullbacks were not playing, next week Cancelo is on and if Walker is fit, City will be more than okay

It was exciting to see two teams who view possion as the best defense tactic fight for the ball which made for a really fast paced game. Hence, Courtois was forced to play a long ball often times, which was unusual for Real and forced many quick turn-overs of possion to City. Kinda missed that in your analysis. City´s agressive pressing should have rewarded them at least two more goals.

Vini jr is something else. Amazing vid!

As a Realmadrid fan I believe Carlo was brave to choose to attack an attacking team and surprise them by playing Rodrigo instead of Camavinga, but city was the team to score 2 in 11 min and they won frist half 2-1. The second half Carlo chooses to correct and play with balance by playing camavinga instead of Rodrigo and it was a tie 2-2. Usually football fans when their team wins they say the coach was amazing, and if they loses they say wrong choice bad coach, but in the end part of their job is taking a risk and be unpredictable, also reading the game during the game to plan for second half. Second league who ever defend better will go to the final.

Madrid has always the ability to get out with the least damage possible of almost every awkward situation . I think they'll win ucl this year

You do realize that City could have easily scored 6 goals in this game right? City were easily the dominant side and created so many easy chances but their lack of clinical finishing cost them the big goal margin. Also, City were without their best 2 fullbacks (Walker and Cancelo). Pep was forced to play a 37 yr old Fernandinho as RB and a make-shift LB in Zinchenko and still City won the match. If City players are more clinical in the 2nd leg and Walker and Cancelo being back, then Madrid have no chance.

@@yahyaerchaicha5889 How are Real madrid weak compared to City? City had no real fullbacks for this game. City improvised and still won the game. Zinchenko is naturally a midfielder not a left-back. Fernandinho is a cdm not a Rightback. City were weaker in defence and lacked pace but Pep's tactics solidified them. As I said earlier, City should have scored at least 6 goals. They dominated real madrid despite having to play some players out of position.

They were the weaker team in terms of chances in 98, 2000, 2016, 2018 and still managed to win those finals. It's not always about how many chances you've got. So this "easily" is not that easy :)

Kroos also had yet another bad game in deep stage CL both from deep and high central positions, though I think he coped better in the high press Madrid shifted to. He's not as press resistant as he was when younger and doesn't have an extra range compared to the average midfielder in passing (unlike Xabi Alonso or Pirlo for example) so am skeptical starting him in such matches makes much sense for Madrid in the future given Camavinga's comfort playing at a higher tempo and that Casemiro is far more valuable in the deep position given the good playmaking by Alaba behind.

If Real once lost to Ajax under Ten Haag, which is the student of Guardiola, I have confidence that City will demolish RM in the 2nd leg. Ajax's squad played a fast paced passing game, only lacks technicality & finesse compared to Guardiola's City. What City lacks is the mental game. It is not that Manchester City could have scored 6 or 7 goals, but they could have "closed" the game in the first half being 2-0 up and make it 3 before the half hour mark. With that being said if the English team was more clinical they would have inflicted a big loss on Real Madrid giving Los Blancos less hope for the second leg although nothing is secure with the Spanish capital's team.

@Jesus Christ Is Lord I know that's what I am with Real Madrid even if you go 3 or 4 goals up in the first leg they are on of the only teams if not the only one to be able to turn it around in the second leg like what Barcelona did back in 2017 against PSG or as Liverpool have done against Barcelona in 2019.

@Jesus Christ Is Lord Well Man City are not PSG, if an English team(Any big 6 team) were 4 goals up against Barca, I bet you they wouldn't have choked like PSG, what if Liverpool were 3-0 up against Barca, do you really think they would have lost 4-0 to Barca in the second leg? not a chance, why? cause Liverpool are strong mentality. The issue with PSG is they have a shit mentality, even last year against City in the first leg, they were a goal up and they played well until City scored, that's when they lost confidence and cracked under pressure, got a red card and lost 2-1. PSG have superstar in their team but the weakest mentality out of the European giants.

Kroos, carvajal is no longer good enough in such big games unfortunately, modric was trying really hard along with valverde but defense was awful. We need 2-4(mbappe included) signings next summer. We can't be too harsh on RM since This is a real Madrid team in rebuild transition.

All of you who played youth soccer, what is the one thing that RM did that you should have learned to always do when you played youth soccer? Anybody??? You always PLAY to the WHISTLE!! RM did not play to the whistle and Bernardo scored as everyone in a blue shirt was standing around thinking that that Zevchenko upended would be called a foul. But the center played advantage - and rightly so - and thus RM goes back to the Bernabeu a goal down.

Its was a huge mistake to play kroos as CDM he is not casimero ..anceloty could play with 4 in the middle to cover casimero absent .. isco even sibayos could play a big role to have some position and create chances..the results is a huge gift beacause anceloty is not fool to gample with Thats midfield again and he have casimero so I know that real madrid could go to the final if they feel what is bernabue UCL about …unmatchable a heritage

Madrid are always lucky in ucl, yesterday their two goals went between the legs and one penalty , whereas city missed some easy chances as well

They are getting this kind of result since ages. It not just luck but it cant be explained either. No other team in eurpoe can get this kind of result after performing how real did.

They had this kind of so many times in the past. They were lucky against Bayern for two consecutive seasons and then were lucky against Liverpool in 2018 Final. Even this season they were lucky against both PSG and Chelsea.

Exactly. Yet most people are congratulating Real Madrid for scoring 3 games. Had City been more clinical, City would have scored at least 6 goals. City should have ended the game in that 1st half.

@@thuo1000 pep and getting unlucky in the champions league is a legendary love story. from players not listening to him in 13/14 2nd leg against real madrid, to injuries against barcelona in 14/15, thrashing atletico in 15/16 in the 2nd leg , aguero missing penalty vs spurs in 18/19 and llorente handball goal in the 2nd game of that tie. and now mahrez wasting chances
