    For foreigners seeing this: A true Mexican taco is a handmade corn tortilla, with any type of meat, cilantro, onion as toppings, and a side radish, lime for squeeze a bit of lime juice, and a side of salsa. And The Americanized tacos are more like those two tacos that were on the plate lol, their tacos don’t have vegetables besides lettuce, and they put a lot of junk as their topping and use quesadilla cheese and a looooot of white cream on their tacos. American tacos are more like fast food restaurant menus

    When people say “flour tortilla” taco is an American taco and not Mexican, me as a norteña (from the north side of Mexico, and not even from a border state): 💀 In a lot of states of Mexico we are used to eat flour tortilla beside corn tortilla. There even are Tortillerías for only flour tortillas. And I think it’s pretty normal to see or eat flour tortilla in all the country, there’s even popular commercial packed ones like “Tortillinas de la tia Rosa” but I think it might be less common in the south (?) Don’t get me wrong, the corn taco is the ORIGINAL one but I don’t like when people comment things like “the TRUE taco” is the one made by corn. What? Are we not TRUE Mexican then? 😂 What I mean is that we don’t have to hate one to love the other, nowadays there’s a LOT of different types of tacos in Mexico and you should not miss the opportunity to try them all 🤤 Trust me, none of the tacos made in Mexico will taste like Taco Bell or anything outside of our country. If you come here and people from the north of Mexico invite you to a “Carnita asada” with flour tortilla, don’t reject it 🤡

  • @CleopatraPhilopator

    @CleopatraPhilopator

    7 ай бұрын

    Sorry if I’m too passionate about this and I make a longer additional comment about it 🤣: -A flour tortilla doesn’t make it automatically a burrito. The burrito HAS to be wrapped like this 🌯 rolled. -I have not been to the USA, but I have the opportunity to travel to a few places from the center and the south of Mexico (our country is very big so it’s normal to not have visited all the states). So I’m sorry if I say some things in a big aspect and if I don’t know a meal from an specific region. Also that’s why I say you should try all that you can if it comes the opportunity, the “original” tacos are a must to try but there’s a lot more than that. I would say the original could be corn tortilla tacos with filings like meat, frijoles (beans), chiles (peppers) and then it comes the multiple derivations of it, even the most popular ones like Tacos al Pastor, which derives from when Lebanese came to Mexico and the recipe was born. A lot of people would say that you can’t leave Mexico without trying those, so just because it’s not an original preHispanic taco doesn’t make it a “FALSE” taco 😅 -In the different regions of Mexico you can find a wide variety of tacos, like tacos de carnitas (fried pork); tacos de cochinita pibil (a special type of seasoned meat, pork nowadays); tacos de nopales (a type of cactus); tacos de mariscos (seafood, some grilled, some stewed, some battered); tacos de canasta 🧺 (soft tacos with different fillings like potato, frijoles, meat, etc, which are originally put in a basket and covered with cloth) where they get steamed by the heat, there’s a recipe showered with oil, and there’s a recipe without oil); tacos de bistec (grilled meat/steak); tacos de carne asada (roast meat); tacos de guisados (different fillings of stews, some of those has more liquid than others (not like a soup though) and that’s why it’s common that those tacos have 2 tortillas because one usually gets torn); tacos dorados (deep fried, hard shell), etc etc etc… And I just pointed out the base of those tacos. Tacos can have different vegetables (depending the type of taco) and toppings, like different salsas (sauces), aguacate or guacamole. There are tacos that are only served with celery, onion lime and salsa. There are tacos that can have as much as toppings that will look like a mountain 😂 And there are tacos that doesn’t have anything but the base filling, but IT’S OKAY! It’s all part of the special flavor of the type of taco and to your personal taste. But trust me, it is a great experience to try all the differences in tacos. -The size of the tortilla can also vary from region to region (also the texture and the color/tone). In a notable comparison, you can find small tortillas for tacos that will barely fit in your hand and you could also find huge tortillas as big as your forearm. Although tortillas made that big are used for meals like “burritos percherones” in Sonora (flour tortilla) or a tradicional Tlayuda from Oaxaca (made from corn, it kinda looks like a pizza, but let’s not call it that?😅). -You can practically make a taco with anything you can fill it with. That’s how it started, it is said our indigenous ancestors used the tortilla practically as a type of eatable plate or as an utensil. Even now it’s common to torn a piece of tortilla and use it to grab our food to eat it directly with it. Like some other cultures where they use things like pita bread or lettuce. Some times we roll the tortilla, hold it with our free hand and bite it from time to time when we are eating a principal plate meal. -Come to Mexico, travel to different regions of the country, live it for yourself, try all of our delicious cuisine, not only tacos 😋 Everyone is always welcomed here, with arms with open. Ask what is the tradicional cuisine of the region you are in. In general don’t be afraid to ask anything, we are very friendly, in public places we are use to talk to people we don’t know 😂❤

    Nah, flour tortillas are not common throughout all of Mexico, that’s only a norteño thing & it’s way too filling. The best tacos are with handmade blue corn tortillas which are common in the south.

    From LA, those Mexican tacos are an idea or in spirit somewhat best representation of it... but the tortillas are made of corn and way smaller (palm/hand size) with meat, raw or pickled onions, cilantro, radish on the side + salsa verde/rojo/avocado and an American/US taco would be usually soft (flour) or hard shell (corn) tortilla (both not hand made, machine made) with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese (sometimes with sour cream and/or raw onions) + hot sauce/salsa. I'm guessing in Korea, they didn't have the right tortillas or could get a hold of authentic ones.

    I'm a Korean American living in Los Angeles. Yes, I am proud of my Korean heritage. But I'm going to put this out there. Mexican food is the BEST food in the world. PERIOD. Fresh Guacamole, sour cream salsa, onions, cheese, beans, cilantro, carne asada ... wrapped in fresh corn tortilla - are you kidding me? bibimbap can kiss my rear. Mexican food is simple, quick, fast, cheap, healthy, and delicious. It's absolute genius. Korean food is good, but comparing Korean food (or any other food in the world) to a Mexican food is like comparing a beat up chevy to a brand new Ferrari. That's right, I said it.

I’m Mexican, so when I found the restaurant VATOS URBAN TACOS in Itaewon, I was ecstatic because the food there was the closest thing to true Mexican food. I found some Mexican restaurants in Japan, but Vatos was the best. Now I live in California and there’s Mexican food everywhere. Of course, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to food. I don’t know if the restaurant Vatos Urban Tacos is still open, but if it is, I highly recommend it. It’s a really good restaurant. If you visit Southern California, go to El Gallo Giro, El Taurino, or El Molino and try the Mexican food there. It’s really good. Btw, Koreans here love Mexican food and they love El Taurino. The service is not the best but the food is worth the wait.

The Mexican taco when you order the medium and large, man it's a complete meal for lunch and dinner, the large Mexican tacos you only eat 2 if you're really hungry, if you're not you don't go past the first one.
